What does anyone think of this bumper sticker idea [Mega Vanity]
N/A | 08/29/13 | fwdude

I am seriously thinking of having the following custom bumper sticker made. What kind of trouble does anyone think I can get into just by displaying this on my car?:

Sic semper tyrannis

I know little to no Latin, and so I can credibly plead ignorance to its meaning. The phrase mentions no one by name. Pretty nebulous, by any standard.

So, what say you? Am I asking for trouble? I would give my life to be used as the effective impetus of the Revolution, but how bad could this be for me?

BTW, it will be VERY LARGE LETTERS.

Lastly, would anyone else be interested in one, to defray the cost?

If you are, every citizen of Virginia is also in trouble.
It's their state motto!

Double Ditto. A much smarter and more effective strategy. Safer too.

One can be far more effective as a assymetric fighter, hidden, invisible.

Bumper stickers NEVER change anyone’s mind. If anything, just the opposite. They re-enforce one’s existing prejudices.........and alienate......

I like it. It's also on the state flag of Virginia. Thus Always to Tyrants.

"What kind of trouble does anyone think I can get into just by displaying this on my car?"

I cannot foresee any consequences that could possibly arise. No harassment or predicament of any sort. This is a totally innocuous exercise of free speech and should raise nary an eyebrow or even engender a second glance.

By the way - Can I have your stuff?

(Seriously - If you're worried about drawing adverse attention to yourself for your political position, what the hell are you doing posting *here*?)

Then why did you choose it?

A bumper sticker that says “VERY LARGE LETTERS” in Latin? I don’t get it.

According to Google Translator, that would be "PERAMPLUS EPISTULARUM"

Makes me wonder if chariots had bumper stickers...

“It Is Always Tyranny”? Just a guess...

Thus always to tyrants.

Sic - thus

semper — always (Marines semper fidelis == always faithful)

tyrannis - loosly given to tyrants

I am not clear (but *I* know what I meant)

tyrannis - loosly MEANS “given to tyrants”

Second question: Why would you ever put ANY sticker on your car anyway? Just sayin’.

Because my NRA sticker says "you may just want to pick another house". Just sayin.

“Sic Semper Tyranus!” is also what John Wilkes Booth shouted after shooting Abraham Lincoln at Ford’s theater. He said it after leaping from the President’s balcony and landing on the stage below, incidentally, breaking his leg in the process.

That’s why I chose Latin, and not French.

How does that translate into Ebonics?
