A fifth U.S. warship steamed toward the eastern Mediterranean on Thursday to join four other cruise missile destroyers poised for strikes on Syria, as U.S. and allied military planning continued for a bombing campaign against Syria.
U.S. intelligence agencies, meanwhile, continued to put the finishing touches on an assessment the Obama administration expects will conclusively link Syrian government and military leaders to the deadly nerve agent strike near Damascus Aug. 21.
A defense official said the fifth destroyer, the USS Stout, would soon arrive in waters near Syria. The warship is armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles.
Other officials familiar with intelligence reports said the White House is expected to release its intelligence assessment outlining the case against the Syrian government for the deadly nerve gas attacks near Damascus as early as Friday. The chemical rocket attack used nerve agent that killed up to 1,400 people.

Don’t forget the Russian warships already in theatre and the ChiCom ships around the corner in the Gulf of Aden.
Jim Rob serverd on a Gearing class destroyer i think the Higbee i spent a week or so on it after he was on it back in the mid 70’s
Barry better be sure Vlad isn't feeling froggy - we might lose a ship
Cindy Sheehan is unemployed and available to protest this war!
When your enemies are killing each other, get out of the way.
Good catch. You can't expect "journalists" these days to fact-check or get the details right. It is the message that counts, not truth or accuracy. (unfortunately not sarcasm)

In exactly one word familiar to everyone: targets.
hussein racing to the aide of his buddies in AQ and the muslim brotherhood.
Not that I particularly want to help Assad, he's no prince of a guy either. I say let them kill each other off by the thousands, and in a year or two or five when they're exhausted, we go in and mop up - everyone on both sides.
Syria has the latest and best Russian weapons, according to Putin. The US navy has never dealt with this, how ever Israel is trying to destroy them all. See:http://worldnewsviews.com/2013/07/13/israel-behind-mystery-attack-on-syrian-port-us-sources/
I’ll bet money they have more.
The dirty little cowboy warmonger Clown is going to get a ship sunk! He has no business doing what he’s doing - egged on by McCain. When it all goes snake$hiite and we’ve lost a ship to a Syrian jet on a bomb run, Barry will blame the republicans and escape any criticism

Gotta have something nearby to knock down those SS-N-12 Missles on the Slava class cruisers.
I hate these bastards. Using our money to play their secret political games that have nothing to to with the best interests of the USA citizens. We’re just the suckers who have to pay the bills for the hubris of these masters of the universe.
Bastards. And the GOP which stands by like a bunch of impotent bumps on a log while this goes on.
The GOP isn’t standing by, guys like McCain can’t wait to go in there with Nukes.
Detatched is a good way to put it. Military endeavors used to always get me transfixed on cable-news and internet minutea. But with the current putrid state of the country, not to mention now that the military is now run by degenerates who prioritize the homo agenda, it’s hard to muster up the slightest interest or concern in this whole idiocy. I honestly just don’t give a damn.
It might lead to WWIII? Well, so frickin’ what. Idiots voted Obama in, so they can choke on it.
It's actually good advice- sometimes... :)
I would bet that “secret” satillite launch on the west coast last night has something to do with this mess. My sense is someone wants to test some kind of new cruise missile control unit.
I share your concern. When the dems lost the “kennedy” seat, I thought that Obama would have no choice but to back down. The process to push through that garbage plan was a joke, and losing a senate seat in Mass. should have been the final straw. But Obama pushed through anyway.
This situation is eerily similar. He has no support, and the stakes couldn’t be much higher. I keep thinking that someone in the military had to be telling him that he just can’t do this. But I am beginning to fear that he wouldn’t listen, anyway. He tries to do things by intimidation and force, and no matter how much of a blithering idiot it makes him appear, he keeps on pushing.
I have a gut feeling that Russia and China have had enough. They know they are dealing with an incompetent, and if there ever was a perfect situation to oppose US action with force, it is this — a completely isolated president devoid of any real support, foreign or domestic. And one viewed by his own military with nothing but contempt.
If he pushed this, it won’t be another Egypt — a disaster, but the suffering generally confined within the country. Too many big players have a stake here, and unless Obama backs down, I just can’t see how this stays confined to Syria.
Yup - let us Patriots never forget that our Defense Dept. is purging its ranks of any fellow Patriots who would not want to accept illegal orders.
