The 88-year-old World War II veteran who was beaten to death with a flashlight as he crossed a parking lot in Washington state may have died because he tried to defend himself, police said. [snip] Our information is that the individual fought back and that may have made this, you know, a worse situation, Spokane police Chief Frank Straub said.

The message that we are intended to take from this story and from the Zimmerman trial is that if you are attacked by a gangsta wannabe you must NOT defend yourself. You must passively take your beating and hope that your attacker gets tired before you die.
If you survive, Obamacare will take care of you (unless the death panel determines it will be too costly, in which case you are out of luck).
Yeah, I get it. Zimmerman’s actions made for this “difficult political situation” —very worky for the cops and gummint.
But if you are kind enough to DIE, well, that removes all PC difficulties. And this old guy’s act of resisting made it hard for HIM.
Yeah, I get it; “Not fighting back will make it easy on YOU”.
Riiiight.
This police chief may not be a jackass but that quote sure makes him sound like that and more.
Phew. People this stupid make my head hurt.
If only the "individual" had his service .45 to fight back with.
Our information is that the individual fought back and that may have made this, you know, a worse situation, Spokane police Chief Frank Straub said.
Loosely translated - if he had just let the thugs rob him, he might still be alive.
Sick, sick line of thinking.
Gun-carrying Zimmerman - alive
No gun-carrying Benton - dead
SEEMS SUPER CLEAR TO ME
What a putz. If they’re going to kill me, I want the survivors of the attempt to at least leave a decent blood trail (theirs).
Well geewizz Sheriff by that logic I guess He should not have fought back at Okinawa in 1945 and we would not have been wounded?
Do these azzclown cops think they are our saviors in blue?
If the old timer could have called the police he would have only have to have waited half an hour for them to arrive and help him.
Although the first cop may have been only 5 minutes away he would have had to wait for his backup.
In cases like this maybe the muzzies have it right - beat those two with flashlights and see how they like it.
My thought too. 1911 pow-pow-pow!
He probably was going to blame him for getting killed because "he got outa da car" without police permission -- but he didn't. He was killed in his car. He had nowhere to retreat to.
This police chief needs to be fired.
It would have been interesting to see how the fascists would have responded if Benton pulled out a gun and blew their brains out. 88 years old, can’t say he “followed” then or “instigated a fight” but I have absolutely no doubt they would have tagged him as racist anyway.
Yup. They are blaming Benton for being beaten to death. Heard it last night.
He may have acted in other ways that "provoked the situation in the first place," ya know.
SO HE SHOULD HAVE LAID DOWN AND TAKEN THE BEATING??????????
Yeah. That aggressive behavior of the older generation of fighting back just doesn’t cut it.~sarc. Boys today are taught to be sensitive, kind, tolerant and sissies.
He said more, too, apparently. Saying how sad it was no one loved the thug, now his life is ruined etc
He isn’t casting blame but police are generally not going to recommend resisting an attempted mugging. I don’t think that is news. Stay calm and comply with the robber’s instructions. In most situations it is naturally but ultimately isn’t worth it to fight back. IMO
ALWAYS fight back.
No worse horror than hoping for mercy from godless animals.
Better to die on your feet than your knees. (And maybe take a few of them with you - thin the herds out to help the next guy).
