President Obama is considering a strike on Syrian military targets involving sea-launched cruise missiles or possibly long-range bombers that would last no more than two days, according to senior administration officials and reported by Karen DeYoung and Anne Gearan of The Washington Post. Reuters reports that the West has told the opposition to expect a strike "within days."
The limited strike would seemingly be a response to allegations that the Syrian government used chemical weapons on its own people before dawn on August 21. Hundreds were killed and thousands suffered "neurotoxic symptoms."
The design of the potential attack implies sending a message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad without becoming entrenched in the 29-month conflict.
On Monday U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said: "There is a reason why President Obama has made clear to the Assad regime that this international norm [of chemical weapons use] cannot be violated without consequences."
The Post notes that the targets would not be directly related to Syrias chemical weapons arsenal and would probably include key government buildings in the capital and perhaps airfields.

After Syria chemical allegations, Obama considering limited military strike
What... is he trying to get Putin and Xi’s OK that the repercussions will be contained?
He should do NOTHING.
Trident?
How about a cost of living increase for the old folks struggling to get by on their SS checks instead?
Translation: Obama knows that AQ used chemical weapons on their own people, but he has to do something to Assad to avoid looking like the limp wrist that he is.
>> He should do NOTHING.
Well, it would be very helpful if he’d pull his head out of his butt.
Other than that, nothing.
Just send the Syrian Air Ministry the target list and time on target.
well we’ve leaked the timeframe and the duration
next let’s just leak the target list before we go to another phoney “kinetic military action” so they can move everything, make some “Baby Milk Factory” signs, and prepare “dead bodies” to stage the scene
where’s the UN security council resolution? Congressional oversight?
Everyone from the US Congress and the UN still on vacation? Gee timing is such a coinky dink
Does he have the precise times? I may be busy.
As opposed to proof, perhaps that the rebels used chemweapons, or perhaps even that the 0' regime paid for/backed rebel use of chemweapons thru Qatar...
So, as you can see, haste is of prime importance here, to accomplish an Assad bashing before it is more commonly known that it was the rebels using the chemicals.
If he does this it is simply not a proper use of our military
And just how far is this unsanctioned attack (by Congress) using long-range bombers and/or cruise missiles from a domestic attack against any of our more conservative recalcitrant states?
Here’s something to watch very very closely. If this tyrant does this without clearance from Congress, he WILL do it against our own citizens - count on it.
Using any planes near Syria would be stupid. They can be shot down.
I have still yet to see conclusive and irrefutable proof such attacks have taken place.
US should butt out and MOOB.
What happens in Syria should stay in Syria. Same for Egypt.
nobama’s getting ready to step in it big time.
There are Russian cruise missiles that could threaten our destroyers and their are ballistic missiles that could hit the British Airfield in Crete.
Its World War One; theres thirteen million killed; it was all because the militaries of both alliances believed they were so highly attuned to one anothers movements and dispositions, they could predict one anothers intentions, but all their theories were based on the last war. And the world and technology had changed, and those lessons were no longer valid, but it was all they knew, so the orders went out, couldnt be rescinded. And your man in the field, his family at home, they couldnt even tell you the reasons why their lives were being destroyed.
And here we are 100 years later, we haven't learned a damn thing.
