lthough director Lee Daniels Oscar-baity film The Butler, which is based on the life of real life White House service-worker Eugene Allen, is receiving rave reviews one black character actor is lashing out at the project.
Actor Harry Lennix, who most film buffs may recognize from his roles in The Matrix trilogy, Get On the Bus and most recently Man of Steel, has said the filmmaker of took Allens story and ni**erfies it and he has dismissed the project as historical porn.
I read five pages of this thing and could not go any further. I tried to read more of it, and Im not a soft spoken guy, but it was such an appalling mis-direction of history in terms of taking an actual guy who worked at the White House, said Lennix in a July interview with Shadow and Act. But then he ni**erfies it. He ni**ers it up and he gives people these, stupid, luddite, antediluvian ideas about black people and their roles in the historical span in the White House and it becomes
well
historical porn. I refused.(continued)

Good for him. He was also very good in Julie Taymor’s “Titus.”
People have stopped going to see it after the first weekend... it will be on PPV and DVD in a few weeks.
I pray you’re right.
I wouldn’t spend one dime or my precious time to see it.
Just racist propaganda and a leftist rewrite of History.
My wife drug me to see it, and all the way home I talked to her about the historical truth stretching all through it, particularly in regard to Presses Nixon and Reagan. In the end she came to my point of view....
Bravo. That's exactly what Lee did. He perverted the life of an actual person into his fantasy of history. He definitely gave the Reagans "stupid, luddite, antediluvian ideas about black people" that the Reagans did not hold.
I’m certain you’re correct about that. The cast is a dead giveaway.
By the way, I wonder if Colin Powell agrees with the portrayal of Ronald Reagan in “The Butler.” That certainly would be a more relevant question for him, as a black in the Reagan Administration, than his views on the Trayvon Martin case.
The Oprah frowns upon such insolence!
I worked for President Reagan. There wasn’t a racist bone in his body.
I’ve been following Nick Searcy on twitter and he’s ruthless about taking up the fight against the race baiters. I didn’t realize it but his adopted (now adult) son is black.
2DV,
The comments at the link are a trip!
Actually, that idiotic NewsMax story was highly misleading. Even blockbuster movies routinely lose up to 50% of their income after the first week. This movie is down some 33%. In the industry, that is considered very good.
Yeah well if it were a biography of Reagan or perhaps George W Bush, what would they say about 33% drop in receipts? Never listen to people that you know lie... and hollywood lies about everything in and outside of their movies.
LLS
It’s BOTH a black-centric site and MSNBC, so nothing would surprise me!
