The teen accused of shooting a toddler between the eyes during a robbery attempt counted down from five before firing, his alleged accomplice testified today after pointing him out as the shooter.
Dominique Lang testified that he ran into De'Marquise Elkins on the morning of the March 21 slaying. A short while later as the two walked together, they saw Sherry West with a stroller.
Lang says Elkins walked to West and demanded her purse before pulling out a gun. When West refused to hand the purse over, he hit her in the face with it and threatened her baby.
'The baby was in the stroller screaming,' Lang said.
Elkins shot Sherry West in the leg with his .22 caliber handgun, he testified, and then shot the 13-month-old baby Antonio Santiago.
De'Marquise Elkins is charged with murder, child cruelty, attempted armed robbery and multiple counts of aggravated assault in connection to the March 21 shooting.
If convicted, Elkins will not face the death penalty because he was 17 at the time of the killing, too young under Georgia law to be executed.
Prosecutors have also accused Elkins of shooting Wilfredo Calix Flores outside a local church ten days before the child was killed.

Thanks for mis characterizing what I said. I have already made it clear that I do not blame the mother. I was saying the mother will likely blame herself or at least wonder what would have happened if she complied. There is a huge difference.
To forever be known as someone who killed a baby, gee... and everyone you ever knew, knew that. One might want the death penalty, that’d haunt every moment of one’s life because that is just unbelievably barbaric.
Sorry, but while you may have *meant* something different than what came out, it is what you actually *said* that has stirred a visceral reaction among so many posters here, because it explicitly states a direct causal relationship between her child surviving and her giving up her purse. In any court of law, that would go down as implicitly blaming her (i.e., making her the cause) for her son's death.
So you have a choice here. You can own what you said, and just admit it would lead any normal reader to the conclusion you were blaming the mom. We all make mistakes. If I could have a nickel for every ambiguous thing I ever said, I'd be rich by now. I'm a grampa too. Lots of misspoke words under my belt.
Or you can try to spin your way out of it. It's up to you. Like Rooster Cogburn said, "you do what you think is best."

I have stated repeatedly that this is in no way the mother’s fault, and I NEVER said that it was. I’ll admit that the wording of that comment should have been better since so many have inferred that I blame her. If you look at my posting history I think you will find that if I thought she was guilty I would say it openly and argue my point.
Thanks for the information. I’d read a posting that quoted the ruling with an exception for those convicted of capital murder. I couldn’t verify this when I looked deeper. Bummer! What a shame that this vicious POS will keep breathing voluntarily and enjoy the good life in prison as someone’s bitch. All the more reason we need to start working on the implementation of The Liberty Amendments

Making excuses for a whole group based soley on age is as stupid as 3 strikes laws that send people to prison for stealing a candy bar.
In the end, it should be up to the states.
I ‘m not sure capitol punishment is a deterence, but I could care less.I think it’s about retribution and that’s fine by me.
I suspect that prompt and certain capital punishment may deter some murders and stoke some retributive joy, especially in those close to the victim. But it’s much, much better if monsters like this are fatally shot while committing the crime or resisting arrest.

I asked you specifically for an expert who advocates drawing when a gun is pointed at you, not your BS response about advocating trained armed women. No credible, serious or responsible trainer would suggest a woman with a baby stroller draw against a pointed gun. The only time that kind of idiocy makes sense is when you are absolutely certain you are about to be executed. BTW since you claim to be published, how about some references so I can read your work? Do you have a website where I can check out your classes?
Yes, he was caught rather quickly and found wearing my cousin's watch. He was tried and given the death penalty, however like Mumia he had lots of celebrity support in his supposed "innocence" and his sentence was commuted to life.

Whether the mother turned over the purse or not, did not warrant the death of an 13 month old. From what I can gather, the punk premeditated the event when he threaten to kill the child. It’s my understanding that she had no money in her purse. So if we treasure our children, you must always have money to give to the punks on demand. Looks like little Antonio could have been saved if George Zimmermann was near by.

There is nothing to support your statement. If he just wanted to kill someone he would have walked up and shot them without the attempted robbery. Why demand the purse? Why the countdown? A goblin like that who would kill a baby has no regard for human life and is likely to kill with little or no excuse.
