This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal. — Barack Obama
Meanwhile, NASA’s Hansen is over in the corner foaming at the mouth.
If there ever was a clear cut case of megalomania, this statement confirms it.
Good to see them agree that the seas have been rising. For twenty years I watched an island disappear and lost my house. I am just as suspect of this group as I am of those certain there that we are causing global warming. Both sides of the argument are very clearly politically motivated.
This is such a crock I don’t even know where to begin...so I won’t.
Does this remind anyone else of Caligula declaring war on Neptune and Neptune’s domain, the sea, and then claiming victory, bringing back boxes of seashells for a triumphal procession in Rome?
Measuring changes in sea level over time is very difficult once you accept that land moves. Coastal islands move a lot. Not only is there erosion, but there is vertical sagging. Land masses built from sand or mud sag under their own weight. The Mississippi delta is going down at a very fast rate. The upper layer of mud used to get replenished by floods, but dykes have stopped that.
Water levels change on the Great Lakes due to plate rebound.
In Wales I stood on a castle that was built with its walls in the sea, but the sea was over a mile away. It is not surprising that the opposite also happens.
The 'threat' of sea level rising is ending? Funny. The 'threat' of a unicorn invasion is ending too... Neither happened or would happen - but why quibble, right?

Hmm, maybe the island was sinking?
Since volcanic ash has supposedly put the lid on rising temperature over the past 15 years, it’s a good thing we had the extra CO2 in the atmosphere or the earth might be a frozen ice ball by now.
Rep. Hank Johnson, a Georgia Democrat, asked if adding a few thousand people to Guam would make the island "become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize."
OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls our climates.
3. The earth is a rock.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?
You’re right Pentagon. I live 12 feet above sea level - my backyard ends at a tidal salt water stream... if there was any great difference over the many years I’ve lived here I would have noticed. The guy’s a liberal - he just makes the stuff up to fit his hysteria.
Thank God; it was already up to my knees.
Well said.
Greece is the poster child for that kind of subsidence. Though of course the dishonest media still pretend that CAGW is the culprit.
The Sun is not politically motivated. I attended a seminar on the Sun and Solar Cycle 24 last weekend and it appears that we are heading for a period of little Sun activity... perhaps another Maunder Minimum. If so... buy wool clothing. Also erosion eats more land than rising sea levels... did you see the latest on Australia? She is either rising above the Earth’s crust or the Sea Levels around her are falling. Research and you will find that what I say is true.

Our lord and savior BHO has saved us from this imminent demise. If he were Catholic, he would be canonized upon his demise, but alas he is a Muslim. The only thing he has to look forward to is 70 Wookie virgins.
