Bradley Manning plans to live as a woman named Chelsea and wants to begin hormone therapy as soon as possible, the soldier said Thursday, a day after being sentenced to 35 years in prison for sending classified material to WikiLeaks.
Manning announced the decision in a written statement provided to NBC's "Today" show, asking supporters to refer to him by his new name and the feminine pronoun. The statement was signed "Chelsea E. Manning."
"As I transition into this next phase of my life, I want everyone to know the real me. I am Chelsea Manning. I am a female. Given the way that I feel, and have felt since childhood, I want to begin hormone therapy as soon as possible," the statement read.
Manning's defense attorney David Coombs told "Today" in an interview that he is hoping officials at the military prison in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., will accommodate Manning's request for hormone therapy.
"If Fort Leavenworth does not, then I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure they are forced to do so," Coombs said.

It's the ultimate inhumanity of the left, in the same way they dispose of human life so easily through abortuary death mills, that they would deny such afflicted people the psychological help so desperately need and just let them parade themselves around like some sort of free range circus freak. How by any reasonable standard is this NOT a mental illness?
There have always been mentally-ill individuals among us. They live in a fantasy world of their own. The difference today is that they demand we all move into the same “fantasyland” or face legal implications. Today we must all pretend men can turn themselves into women, and vice versa, a fetus is just a nonviable tissue mass, global warming is accelerating, Washington DC knows what it is doing, people are prejudiced without knowing about it, and there is no significant difference between men and women.
Once the general population is conditioned to accept nonsense as wisdom and fantasy as fact (even if people think they are merely “humoring” others) there is little chance of turning back. Bradley will always be a “he”. Chastity will always be a “she”. I will not start playing that game.

Gov. Chris Christie of NJ has in fact BANNED all “conversion therapy” designed to help such people. Even when they voluntarily WANT to go through such therapy.

The military does not currently allow that, but I’m sure Obama will change that ,too.
This may be the first sensible decision that traitorous loser has made in his life. If you’re a guy on the way to 35 years in prison, it’s a whole lot better to be surrounded by women, even tough women, than by tough men.

They could also declare a dog’s tail to be a leg, or a s#!t sandwich to be ham on rye.
But that don’t make it so.
The contradiction in liberals’ point-of-view on this is strange. They claim there’s no difference between men and women. Then they support a man who says he wants to become a woman. If there’s no difference between the genders, how can someone feel like a woman trapped in a man’s body? Shouldn’t liberals tell him he must just be confused because a woman isn’t any different from a man?

Yes but my question was HOW it cannot be a mental illness. Clearly there are some serious screws loose in these individuals. Whether the defect is physical or the result of psychological trauma these people are very unhappy and maladjusted. How they can rationalize this as normal is a mystery to me. And if they are normal, how can you justify prescribing hormones therapy or surgical multilation?
