DALLAS -- Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's message to Republican lawmakers who won't support defunding "Obamacare" at the risk of shutting down the government? "Don't blink." And he downplayed the effects of a possible shutdown, telling a Dallas crowd on Tuesday evening that the last time the government experienced "a temporary suspension of non-essential federal government spending," the military kept functioning and Social Security checks were distributed.
Cruz is leading the charge to defund President Barack Obama's health care law at what he calls "the single best time" to get rid of the law. And while Democrats who back the law certainly aren't on his side, Cruz has framed the fight so that they're not his only foes.
"We have to do something that conservatives haven't done in a long time: We've got to stand up and win the argument," Cruz told the crowd of thousands who gathered at the town hall style meeting.
Cruz said that if enough Republicans stand together, it will create an impasse to force the issue.
"A significant amount of Republicans assume, with an impasse, that President Obama will never ever ever give up his principles, so Republicans have to give up theirs," Cruz said. "If you have an impasse, you know -- one side or the other has to blink. How do we win this fight? Don't blink."

God Bless Ted Cruz.
Go, Cruz, GO!! Defund CommieCare!!
IMHO this is Ted Cruz’s defining moment... an opportunity make his name based on this fight. Judging from his behavior, he has fully grasped this.
How refreshing it is to see a principled Reaganite conservative like Sen Cruz display REAL leadership skill and political astuteness- this guy is going places
Cruz 2016!
I would sure like to think so,....However,, my cynical side tells me that there is a massive financial power structure in place that will crush any attempt at repealing the new obamacare/tax, they want it bad, not only will it enslave every person but it will also solve the social security problem
The question is will Speaker Boehner try to sabotage Cruz’s attempt to fight this?
I just saw a commercial for Obamacare I am pissed. I went and looked at these calculators that tell you how much of a subsidy you will get towards your premiums. I will not get any subsidy. Looks like if you are single and make 50K you will get nothing. If you are married with no kids you get nothing if you make 63K a year. This was for Oregon I can imagine what California’s is this is where I live.
We have insurance right now but who knows what will happen
in 2014. FUBO
Ted, If a mysterious looking G-man ends up at your office with a briefcase of money (or gift cards) telling you to “sit this one out” for Obamacare please report it to the public or even better yet set up some hidden cameras and mics and get him to admit he’s from the administration. The money in that suitcase is tmost likely taxpayer funds being misapropriated...nothing is too far-fetched or sinister for this administration: )
Everyone knows the primary hidden goal of Obiecare is to integrate and establish a massive data collection system on every citizen to really tighten the reigns down and siphon funds from citizens in ways our ancestors never would have imagined.
Haven’t you been listening? We have to wait until its fully implemented to see EVERYONE’s premiums come down. That should happen in 2016. /s
We’re past blinking Cruz, the RINO’s are grasping their ankles.
In October 2007, I sat in the media gallery of the United States Supreme Court and watched the Solicitor General of Texas [Ted Cruz] argue on behalf of the state that he should have the ability to put to death a Mexican national who had been convicted of raping and murdering two teenage girls in Houston. He won that argument and he was executed by Texas on August 5th, 2008, despite the objections of the United Nations and the International Court of Justice. At the time, I had no idea who this man arguing on behalf of Texas was. but all I could think was holy c**p, this guy is good. It was one of his nine times arguing before the Supreme Court and he was witty, incredibly fast on his feet and clearly had a brilliant legal mind. It is to this day one of the most impressive displays I have ever seen before the Court and I have had the good fortune to spend a lot of time there.
My attitude toward “non-essential” government functions is simple. If they are non-essential, it shouldn’t be doing them anyway, and the Government can function fine without.
By all means, have your own video and audio--because you know d@mned well they'll have theirs.
Hannity’s heart is is the right place, conservatism. Problem is his is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
I guess Ted Cruz doesn’t realize the GOP is on the other side.
I don’t think the GOP is on the other side. They’re being extorted. I suspect Sen. Cruz knows this.
Yeah right. I am worried. Just because you make a certain amount of money that does not mean you have unlimited disposable funds. What happens if you don’t have money to pay for the insurance premiums or the stupid fine for that matter. I hat O and his supporters and anyone who voted for this piece of crap. Every since that bastard got elected I have been in a worried frame of mind and it just gets worse day by day year by year.
