The mud is flying early this cycle.
It is three years and three months before the next presidential election, but all it took for Ted Cruz to have his good name smeared was to take a single trip to Iowa where he mentioned that some social conservatives have urged him to run for president.
For this provocation, the freshman senator from Texas -- and new Tea Party idol -- found himself portrayed in the media by classmates who havent spoken to him since he was a freshman in college as not merely a didactic and right-wing teenager, but as some kind of sexual deviant.
The story, which was the lead piece in The Daily Beast on Monday, featured Cruzs freshman roommate -- who is clearly not a social conservative -- dishing a heavy dose of criticism and innuendo. That roommate, Craig Mazin, said he was afraid of the influence Cruz has achieved in life, while relating a salacious, if sketchy, story about Cruz menacing female students at Princeton by wearing a paisley bathrobe in their wing of the coed dorm.
In this instance, the supporting evidence used to impugn the character of a yet another conservative was so thin that the Daily Beasts hatchet job might be easily dismissed -- except for two factors. First, it was touted all day long on various liberal websites. Second, this was part of a disturbing pattern.

Here’s a nice concern-troll haul. In other news:
http://www.kxan.com/news/texas/ted-cruz-holding-meetings-across-texas
AUSTIN (AP) Sen. Ted Cruz is touring the state this week holding meetings with Republican and tea party groups.
The freshman Republican will start in Kingwood and Conroe on Monday, with visits to Houston, Dallas and Central Texas by Thursday.
Cruz will be meeting mostly with GOP and conservative groups, but will also hold round-table discussion with business people. Congress is on its summer break, giving lawmakers a chance to return home for Washington to check-in with supporters.
Cruz has made national headlines suggesting that the Republicans in Congress shut down the federal government to stop implementation of President Barack Obama’s signature health care overhaul, the Affordable Care Act.
Congress has abysmal approval ratings, and polls suggest that most voters want compromise. But conservative groups have avidly backed Cruz’s effort.
another modernist weasel response
Tell me, would Madison and Jefferson use a ^purposefully vague term^ in what they knew to be the greatest governing document in the history of the world?
Yet, here we see you saying, “Madison and Jefferson are dead!” as if that allows us to change their creation.
If so, then the gun-grabbers are justified in their redefinition of “abridged”. Sit back and give up your guns brother because there’s plenty of “bridges” in New York that have notihing to do with firearms.
I’m with Cletus.... there seems to be a concerted effort to destroy the NBC.
If everyone just steps back and asks themselves why the clause was created the obvious answer is loyalty.
If either of your parents are not American, then you have, by definition, divided loyalties at birth. Same with Obama, he could’ve been born on the steps of the White House, but if his father was not American then no NBC.
Seems pretty simple to me.
:: there seems to be a concerted effort to destroy the NBC ::
Actually, the effort is to render NBC useless when it serves the purposes of the progressive-communists. When it does not serve that purpose, America (AKA, Murrikkka) MUST be constrained to the “originality” of the term.(oh, and the prog-comms will define originality!)
NBC for me but not for thee.
Take a slow deep breathe. Hyperventilating is causing scattered thoughts drifting off subject.
We here all agree that we have to wrest the reins away from liberals. It does not improve our argument to rant without first being well versed in the subject.
Not one Freeper has any pure undisputable knowledge regarding Cruz’s NBC eligibility. My take is that NBC was not previously the criteria used to filter candidates, it was not part of the criteria in 2008 and it is unlikely to ever be a significant portion of the criteria in the future, regardless of who future candidates may be.
Yeah, but there was a period, in the 80’s where silk paisley men’s underwear was all the rage. Girls and women were buying it for their boyfriends and husbands. The men loved it for the way it felt against the skin. The problem was that it wasn’t very durable.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Cruz also had matching under shorts. They sold them as sets.
So...modern conservative ideals trump the US Constitution for you. Fine, vote your conscience.
Again, if the founders ^^intended^^ vagueness, please elucidate on your interpretation.
It is YOU that indulges in modern revisionism to postulate “NBC” is not defined.
NBC, at the construction of the US Constitution was well defined and well understood. It is the failure of the present age that looks at at the terms and deems them “passe” and “vague”.
“If he declares for the presidency and then rests on the unproven precedence of Obamugabes election, he will not be supported ^for any office^ by the majority of voters in West Texas and should not be considered viable by conservatives across America.”
Bull.
The paisley design was popular in the 60’s as well. It comes back every 20-25 years or so. It’s ancient design goes waaaaay back.........

That's not true.
While it's true few people remember Obama, fellow student Phil Boerner wrote an article in the New York Times about being at Columbia with Obama. Sohale Siddiqi, Obama's roommate, has been interviewed on TV. One of his college professors has publicly announced that he remembers Obama from his classes.
Yes, it confounds me that nobody at the 30th class reunion seemed to know Obama, but it's not right to say "no one remembers Obama at Columbia." A couple of friends and a professor have come forward.
Let me start by saying that Cruz is a a fine conservative and the RNC should support him, unequivocably.
Next, he risks the “wrath” of the media and progressive-communists in declaring his intentions for POTUS. If he does declare, it means nothing to me because I don’t play “American Idol” in the primary season.
Keep in mind that they (dhimmmicrats) will dismiss Obamugabe’s NBC concerns, in the vernacular of Racheal Jeantel, “That be ol’ School.” They have no shame and will defeat Cruz’s primary effort on NBC concerns alone.
If Cruz isn’t out in front of this soon, he will be characterized as a ideological clown with no authority.
Further investigation has also surfaced UNSUBSTANTIATED evidence that Mazin may have also been a member of a possible pedophile ring operating at the university at the time.
These allegations have yet to be proven or substantiated, however, it sure sounds as if Craig Mazin is an UNDESIRABLE person who bears watching.
( Just fighting fire with fire ) /s
One last shot.
You say “NBC, at the construction of the US Constitution was well defined and well understood.”
Now its incumbent upon YOU to tell us exactly what the well defined definition was, instead of continually evading specifics and harping on scattered issues.
I am not that great at predicting the future. Glad you are able to do it for me. ;-)
For what it’s worth all,
The NBC was created to protect our nation from foreign influence. Your parents are one of the most, if not THE MOST, influencial people in your life. Therefore, the rule was BOTH parents being American that way there would be no foreign influence.
I assume if you ask Cruz he would say his dad had influence on his life. His dad was not American.... therefore foreign influence.
Not sure why this is so difficult for some, but with people now days reading into “shall not be infringed” I guess “natural born” opens up all kinds of interpretations the founders would have never thought of....
By the way, if Cruz dad was Cuban, and Cruz was born in Canada, can he lead the U.S.A, Canada, and Cuba? Could a natural born citizen, who qualified for the Presidency also qualify to run multiple countries? Just food for thought everyone....
According to your modernist construct? Pffftttt!
NBC meant citizen parents -man and woman- and birth on native soil.
Boy, it’s gonna be fun watching the Cruz concern trolls ride the ZOT train.
“Senator Cruz should be upright and declare that he ^^is not eligible to run for president^^ according to the proper understanding of natural born citizen.
This would, simultaneously, declare that his conservative chops mitigate his ego as well as throwing the NBC argument back on the POTUS. Accordingly, he should support -in the same breath- a viable conservative candidate.
If he declares for the presidency and then rests on the unproven precedence of Obamugabes election, he will not be supported ^for any office^ by the majority of voters in West Texas and should not be considered viable by conservatives across America.”
Right on. It bears repeating, so I pretty much quoted your original post in full.
Elsewhere, Cruz is reported as saying he won’t be drawn into a legal debate about whether he’s a Canadian citizen: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3056636/posts. This is wise, because he most certainly is, whether he has ever applied for the passport or not. I hope he gets out of this sideshow soon though. He seemed to have the makings of a great senator.
God Bless West Texas. Ever tried the Jeff Davis County wines?
Somehow, I don't recall Rahm Emmanuel or Saul Alinsky being cited in the Constitution...
But, if you say so...
I hope to go to some Cruz town hall meetings soon. I am so happy I got to vote for him twice. He makes Texas proud.
