Possibly our president and the disintegration of America is the spur that shook Russia out of Modernism and focused Putin on rescuing civilization, at least in his country.
The article doesn’t mention the practical motivation behind Putin’s policy. Russian birth rates have been trending down like all of Europe’s, but much faster because it is a less healthy society than most of Europe. When you consider the population losses from the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia is losing the historical edge in population that made it a great power. Russia defeated Germany in WWII by it’s ability to overwhelm the German Army and defeat it in a war of attrition. Today, Russia has about 140 million to Germany’s 80 million. Russia’s long term viability as a great power depends on turning its population problem around.

Yes but. Putin is, after all, a politician. A master politician.
While some of his current thoughts and policies are truly excellent, there are always other layers to consider with this guy. He’s having fun, and so are his publicists, with the gay thing right now. And so are we.
But what comes next with Russia? Are they teaming up with Iran to nuke us?

The world has turned upside down. Four decades ago, I had graduated high school and was considering pursuing a military commission via ROTC. Unlike my “peers” who supported McGovern in 1972 and drew peace signs on their cars, I was a young cold warrior who followed Jane’s defense publications and the stories of dissidents from behind the Iron Curtain. And now I am agreeing with Pravda!
