CATCHING A SECOND WIND
Cross country runners and other long distance runners have all relied on a "second wind" to finish their race; the longer the race the more "second winds" will be required. This physiological wind source is a timely aid in propelling an exhausted runner onward to the finish.
The phenomenon of the "second wind" has a spiritual principle, too. When the purposes of God seem too distant to continue, God provides a "second wind" to propel his people onward to finish the cause in which they are engaged. Indeed: "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength..." (Isaiah 40:31)

Always An Upgrade
August 18, 2013
When Im about to leave the house, sometimes my wife, Martie, stops me and says, You cant go to the office dressed like that! Its usually something about the tie not matching the jacket or the color of the slacks being out of sync with the sportcoat. Though being questioned about my fashion choices may feel like an affront to my good taste, I have realized that her correcting influence is always an upgrade.
Scripture often calls us to put on attitudes and actions that match our identity in Christ. Sometimes we are known by the clothes we wear, but we can make Jesus known by wearing attitudes and actions that reveal His presence in our lives. The apostle Paul advised us to set the fashion standard by modeling the wardrobe of Jesus compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, and forgiveness (Col. 3:12). And, he added, above all these things put on love . . . . And let the peace of God rule in your hearts (vv.14-15).
Clothing ourselves in Jesus likeness begins with spending time with Him. If you hear Him say, You cant go out like that! let Him lovingly take you back to the closet so He can clothe you with His likeness. Its always an upgrade!
Lord, help us to see ourselves the way You see us. By
Your Spirit teach us to adorn our lives with the
attitudes and actions You have designed for us as a
public statement about our identity with You.
Clothing ourselves with Jesus attitudes and actions shows His presence in our lives.

August 18, 1969 - the final day of that perverted orgy known as "Woodstock."
Where was I? On an early morning mission in the "Arizona" - Quang Nam Province, I Corps, RVN. We were sent out to relieve and bring in some of our guys who had been ambushed earlier in the day.
Some of you have heard this story before, or parts of it. The reason I bring it up this evening is to make one point. I was hit in that mission, lying prone in the tall grass but clearly exposed to further fire. My 3/5 Brothers laid down a heavy field of fire to protect me, secured the area, and came to my aid.
My most vivid memory of that incident was immediately after I was hit. I looked over to one side, and a young Marine was crouched with his M-16 spitting rounds at the enemy, reloading and repeating, again and again. That young Marine was a gentleman of color, as were many of the young Marines who stood with me that day. He, and they, sprang into action immediately - without any question as to my "race."
I was born into a society where prejudice was common, some say ingrained in its fabric, but I was not reared to be prejudiced. I was reared by my Mother and Father to respect all without regard to race. I agree with Dr. Martin Luther King that we we should be judged by the content of our character, not the color of our skin.
Any vestiges of racial prejudice that I may have harbored were fully washed away that morning. I pray that the barriers of race in our society be thrown down once and for all and that we may all share equally in the manifold benefits our Dear Lord has bestowed upon our Beloved Nation.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Hear! If only the current "leaders" shared these sentiments. We need to all be pulling together, not apart.

Indeed! And the dude in place was supposed to be the first "Post-Racial" president. Instead, he has done nothing but foment racial, gender and class strife.
