Why Did a Tennessee Grade School Ban Pork?
Fox News & Commentary ^ | August 15, 2013 | Todd Starnes

A Tennessee elementary school banned students from eating ham sandwiches, BLT’s and anything else made with pork, but eventually lifted the ban after parents complained.

Third grade teachers at Sunset Elementary School in Brentwood, Tenn. sent home an “Approved Snack List” for the school year and it specifically banned anything that comes from a pig.snacklist

“No meats containing pork,” read the memorandum. “Starting Monday, August 12, 2013 your child must provide their own snack from the above approved snack list.”

Kids could nosh on raw vegetables without dips or sauces, fresh fruit, crackers, pretzels, and popcorn – but no ribs or pork rinds.

“Only choose a food from the following list to bring into school for snack,” the memorandum stated in bold-face type. “No other food items are permitted.”

Just as disturbing to me is the naming of specific brands of snack products.

Who the f--- do they think they are telling people which corporations are acceptable and which ones are not?

And when my daughter was in school that is exactly what I used to tell them. “Are you really gonna stand there and try to Lecture me? Really? I know exactly what classes you took to get your degree because I had to take the really really hard ones to get mine....in accounting. Since I pay your salary and apparently my education is much better than yours I suggest you listen to MY lecture. Now sit down and shut up!” That is exactly what I told the Vice Principal at my daughters elementary school.

I wonder how many parents will just cave in and accept this crap because it’s what the school TOLD them to do? They need to march up in there, en masse, and inform those school morons that they will have no say in what their kids bring to school.

Or why they need a dozen boxes of 24 or 36 Color Crayolas?

They don't. I still had my 4th grade crayons to pass down to our kids. Some of the multiples are because some parents can't be bothered to provide supplies so we have to take up the slack. I used to sub and witnessed teachers throwing away garbage cans full of brand new supplies at the end of the years.

There were several individuals that called in to our morning show here in Nashville. One such caller stated that many brands of food are processed in plants which also process things containing wheat, peanuts, etc. She claimed that, for example, the “Roll Gold” brand only processes pretzels/chips and therefore are not contaminated with potential allergy causing ingredients.

Nevertheless, this whole incident was just infuriating. It really pays to have an alert and vigilant talk radio audience to counter these things. Makes you wonder if they don’t do stuff like this just to see what they can get away with.

“While you and I might have to buy Great Value! brand pretzels from Walmart, these minority kids’ parents have EBT cards, TANF, SNAP, WICs, EITC, Section 8 and all the other minority lotto cards and THEY buy only the good junk food fo dem chilrun. That’s why.”

Them rollin in cash from welfare, while we havin to scrap by great value. Where is our memorial??

As good as that may make teachers feel, it is not my, nor my daughter’s, nor my son’s responsibility to provide ‘excess’ for themto unilaterally decide to ‘redistribute’ to minorities and children of irresponsible parents. The “Dozen” boxes thing was REAL....REAL! I pay enough taxes. Screw them if they won’t provide the needed supplies. They certain live better than most Americans while they’re on untaxable EBT benefits.

"Back in my day, no one I ever knew was allergic to peanuts. Don’t get me wrong, everyone is probably allergic to something but why are there so many kids who have suddenly become allergic to peanuts."

I've wondered the same thing. In 18 total years of school (including college) between 1956 and 1973, I never once encountered someone with one of these serious peanut allergies, nor did I ever even hear of such a problem. This all seemed to originate within the last ten years or so, and I've wondered why it's happening.

“It is very weird that they allow only certain brands.”

Probably hahlal.

Notice that Jews never do this kind of crap.

We take responsibility for our own diets and do not impose our religious customs on others.

I saw one of them this morning in Walmart. Very young, nice clothes. Big ass basket FULL of crap, stuff I can’t afford. I have never bought so much. At the end, she hid her first card so no one could see. Swiped it, then waited, then pulled out a Visa everyone could see to make up the change difference.

ONE out of THREE people are on SNAP. They buy the food they want on it and WICs (for the welfare baby), then they buy cigarettes and the liquor and use the cash they have leftover from TANF and EITC for the widescreen, DirectV (all them trailers have it), drugs and lotto. They don’t have a care in the world. They have no tax liability at all.

“Back in my day, no one I ever knew was allergic to peanuts.”

It’s because they started using peanuts in lotions in the last 20 years or so.

With dramatically increased non-food exposure, the chance of a contact allergy just goes up.

I have a shell-fish allergy (not a big deal since I am Jewish!), probably from working in a sea food restaurant all through college.

Bump to my previous post.

I am not guessing; there is a large study on this.
