Late summer is peak Lyme disease season.
As a result, Sen. Charles Schumer has urged the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to study new and potentially fatal tick-borne illnesses.
The New York Democrat has urged the CDC to look into two diseases that have already been found in the state.
Schumer noted that New York City and on Long Island lead the state in Lyme disease infections.
In addition to Lyme disease, ticks are known to carry Babesiosis, Powassan virus and Borrelia miyamotoi.
Schumer said those diseases are worse than Lyme disease.
“It’s not your average Lyme disease. It’s transmitted within 15 minutes of the bite. Lyme disease, if you see a tick on you and pull it off within 24 hours you won’t get it,” Schumer said of Powassan virus. “For Powassan, you have a one out of three chance of actually dying if you get bitten by it. It’s a deadly disease and there is no cure.”
The Lyme and Tick-Borne Disease Prevention, Education, and Research Act would help combat the new and growing epidemic by improving and expanding the federal government’s efforts to contain the spread of tick-borne illnesses, Schumer’s office said in a release.
“We have over 2,000 cases in New York City and Long Island. There were only 228 reported cases several years ago,” said Schumer.
The bill would expand research into Lyme disease, improve education and require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to produce a report to educate doctors and other health professionals on the latest research and treatment options for such diseases, Schumer said.
The senator added many tick-borne illnesses can be difficult to diagnose, highlighting the need for more research.
Why don’t we get rid of this alphabet program, end subsidies for scientific/medical research, and then quickly find preventions and cures for things like this?
I call for more research into the intelligence of New York State voters.
I’d rather see research done on the mental disorder called liberalism.
If there’s one thing the senate knows, it’s blood sucking parasites.
They have been doing heavy research on tick, flea and bedbug-borne diseases for more than a generation now. How much more tax money do they need for their multi-billion dollar government-funded research grants? And don’t get me started on the cancer research grants. A lot of that money gets looted out and goes right down the rabbit hole.
How bout we start with getting rid of the blood sucking ticks in Congress?
Nothing but a bunch of parasties anyways.
Speaking as one who has first hand knowledge of Lyme, it is now more prevalent than AIDS but we hear very little about it because it doesn’t fit into the pc crap agenda that is being publicized for libs gratification.
How about going after a permanent cure for the blood-suckers hanging around the halls of Congress....
Charles Schumer is an embedded tick on the skin of America.
Yes, that would have to be the first move. Then on to the alphabet programs. Now when we get to welfare, that’s gonna be a rough ride, but I have better aim than those who fill our local Walmart on the first of the month.

Probably trying to find new ways to suck the blood of the American Tax payer. Why else is it called poly-ticks, many bloodsuckers.
Kill the deer.
As early as 2009, researchers were starting to link the possiblility of Lyme to some cases of Parkinsons and Alzheimers. If you want a real education on what Lyme can do/does try “Under Our Skin” on HULU. A little lenghty but VERY educational.
Schumer will rue the day he brought up the subject of TICKS...
If ever there was a TICK.... (well you know)
I have had it also. It’s not pretty and it can linger. This is a worthy issue to pursue. it is a nasty disease. surprised a lib is pushing this because it’s mostly white people who come down with it.
Let's do some research on blood suckers. Schumer could be our first in-depth study.
I'd rather have a thousand ticks attack me than even having to spend one minute in a room with that flaming lib ass bite!
