CVS requesting ID for nail polish remover, in effort to curb ‘meth’ production
Fox ^ | 8/11/13

CVS pharmacy customers are being asked for identification when they buy nail polish remover, WPRI 12 News reports.

The policy, which has been rolled out across southern New England in the past few weeks, means customers must show ID and will be limited on the number of bottles of remover they can purchase, according to the station.

The drugstore chain says the rule is an attempt to curb the making of illegal methamphetamine, and issued this statement, according to the station:

“Because acetone is an ingredient used in the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine, we recently implemented a policy that a valid ID must be presented to purchase acetone-containing products such as nail polish remover. Our policy also limits the sale of these products in conjunction with other methamphetamine precursors and is based on various regulations requiring retailers to record sales of acetone.”

Isn’t CVS the one supporting Obamacare?

I don’t know about meth, but it’s also an ingredient in diy explosives.
Yes I know it can be bought at home depot.

The cold meds you get off the shelf now are worthless. I don't medicate my kids unless absolutely necessary, but when you have a kid that hasn't slept in 2 days because she's so congested.... yeah, it's time for medication! Even my pediatrician has said, forget the shelf-stuff, go right to the pharmacy and get "X" and sign for it.

That little Miss Smarmy at Rite Aid was all of 20 yrs old or so, and I'm sure she didn't realize that what I had to ask her sorry butt for, was standard common sense only a coupla years ago. You know, before everyone was guilty of being a meth-head just because they got sick!

You can get a gallon at the hardware store for $16. Who would buy little bottles?

Go to a Home Depot and by acetone by the quart or gallon.

Ssshhhhh!!! They've already got the spray paint in locked cages. Don't give them any more ideas.

“The cold meds you get off the shelf now are worthless.”

The cards for the good cold meds are on the shelf. Have to get a card and take card to pharmacist counter so they can take your picture, get your fingerprints, do an eye scan, and take a blood test, then come back in three days and maybe you get the med. No, that is not happening now, but I foresee a future where it does happen.

Some people use acetone to boost their car’s mileage when gasoline prices are high. Though it is argued endlessly by those who claim results and those who say such results are impossible.

Personally, I believe I get between a quarter and a third better mileage with, than without.

This country is on par with Sodom and Gomorrah...no self reliance left thanks to decades of political give away programs and now with the Obama White House those programs are totally dressed to kill. The Food Stamp and Disability President (TFSaDP) has not only killed an industrious people off by destroying their businesses but he has also crippled them by taking away any modicum of self respect. Obama can be really proud of himself....his America is close to becoming much like Kenya, Detroit is already there. Shoot the Drug Dealers and Makers.

GOOD GRIEF!

I buy it by the gallon down at my local hardware store.

No questions! Sheeeech, its a standard industrial chemical and they want nail polish to be controlled?

Our Nanny Society has gone nuts. Arrest and REALLY, REALLY convict meth lab people and leave us alone!

Why would anyone buy acetone in 6 oz bottles at a pharmacy, when you can buy it in a gallon cans at any hardware store for a third the price?

Yup! Pharmacists have become little busybodies - missing the drug addicts who blow them away with Uzis and targeting middle-class people with colds. But, isn’t that Obama’s America?

The problem with CVS pharmacists (not the clerks) is that they are indifferent. Deeply indifferent to other people’s pain. They probably love the idea of death panels.

I shipped a 52 pound amplifier out for repair yesterday via UPS, and they REQUIRED ID in order to ship it. I asked why they required ID since I'd shipped via UPS many times without having to show any form of id.

The response: NEW LAW requiring packages over a certain size and weight be personally identifiable.

Has anyone else heard of such a thing? I know I haven't, and if I wasn't desperate to get this amplifier repaired I'd have told UPS to shove it and go to Fed-Ex or somewhere else.
