On Saturday night, CNNs Don Lemon delivered a response to the controversy surrounding his agreement with Fox News host Bill OReillys diagnosis of the black communitys ills. In the spirit of equality, Lemon followed up that segment by hosting anti-racism educator Tim Wise, and his Five Tips For White People to Improve Race Relations, or Improve Their Conditions.
Wises advice to white folks is a true study in contrasts between what is expected of black people, and what is expected of white people even by anti-racism activists.
Lemon took considerable criticism for his own five point plan, which included:
1) Stop sagging your pants/dress appropriately.
2) Stop saying the n-word.
3) Stop having babies out of wedlock.
4) Stop littering.
5) Stay in school.
The criticisms of Lemon were varied, but one thing you can say about Don Lemons list: for what its worth, it was all about black people.
Strangely enough, Tim Wises list of things for white people to do was also all about black people:
1) Stop telling black people to get over slavery.
2) Believe black people when they say theyre being profiled.
3) Stop saying you have a black friend as a get out of racism free card
4) Confront the long legacy of white denial when it comes to racism.
5) Stop using statistics incorrectly to justify prejudice.
My 3 points:
If you don’t like being judged by a stereotype, don’t work so hard to live up to it
The “N” word is not a race. It is a behavior.
“Culture” should not be used to excuse crappy behavior
5) Stop using statistics incorrectly to justify prejudice.
Sorry, but the reality of crime statistics is what leads to profiling in the first place. If blacks were serious about Trayvon as a teaching moment, they would accept the facts of the case instead of making up their own. And then they would take those facts as a means to teach young blacks on that path what the end game is for that path - death or prison.
#2) Sorry, I will not enable someone else’s paranoia
His advice is to basically pretend that a huge and dangerous problem doesn’t actually exist because of what happened before I was born.
People of ALL colors need to get over slavery, since it has been outlawed in America for a century and a half. Institutional racism has been outlawed for a half century.
It’s time for people to quit making excuses, put on their big girl panties, and stand on their own.
1) I don't tell black people anything.
2) Sadly, many blacks are paranoid and you can't really trust their judgment. They think it only rains in their part of town because the white man arranged it. They can be driving 100mph and will still insist they got pulled over for being black, nevermind they went past the cop so fast, the cop wasn't even sure what color the CAR was.
3) I have no black friends, so there. My boss is black and he seems like a pretty good guy, but we aren't buddies.
4) I don't deny that whites were prejudiced for years and many still are. I am. I don't like anyone till they prove themselves likable. But we aren't lynching you anymore so stop acting like every dirty look is a whiplash.
5) Here we have a problem, buddy, those statistics aren't incorrect. Your culture is deeply dysfunctional and that is a fact. A few have escaped, but most haven't. By the way, the ones who have escaped have followed Lemon's plan: pulled up pants, decent language, strong families, and education.
I find it interesting but not the least bit surprising that Tim Wise hates black people being profiled so much that he’s willing to profile white people as racists in an attempt to make an argument.
Point One: Improve yourself and stop wait for someone else to do it for you. End point
I don’t why Tim Wise or Don Lemon think that he speaks for whites. He doesn’t speak for me. He is certainly no advocate of whites.
Mr Wise. I have one thing that will greatly improve my respect for you.
Shut up you’re an embarrassment to the human race.
1. Stop living a subculture that glorifies drugs, promiscuity, and violence.
2. Stop acting offended when people of all races reject that subculture and try to segregate themselves from it.
3. Put your big boy britches on and quit using the past as a crutch during the present.
4. Take advantage AND be thankful of the fact that you weren’t born in a 3rd world hellhole in Africa, where your very existence would be in jeopardy every day.
#1) Stop pointing to a century old event for your current predicament. A loving strong Family and Education are the two biggest drivers to your success, or failure.
An old catch phrase-Short sleeves to short sleeves in three generations. First generation has a great idea and works their a$$ off to create a fortune. Second generation coasts and lives off the wealth. Third generation consumes whatever wealth is left over, the Business is in tatters, and the third generation returns to middle class.
Tim, I’m done.
It is the way it is.
What this preferance tard is really saying is "Stop using the truth to make blacks look bad."
Stop calling people racist, in order to paint yourself as not racist and falsely lifting your fake moral superioraty
~ Larry Elder, The Ten Things You Cant Say In America
Not really. As Chief Justice Roberts has pointed out discrimination hasn't been ended, it's just been reversed. The government has codified laws whereby race is a factor in hiring and college admissions. Government driven race preferences are a form institutional racism.
I don’t have to do a damed thing.I respect everybody so I expect respect in return.
5) Admit black on black urban crime is a real problem, suppressing the quality of life for all. We need a national conversation on solutions, not wring our hands over negative influence of gang membership
Exactly. White people are evil and dumb if they profile, but all white people are inherently racist (even if there is no evidence to support that claim.). That's the ultimate in blanket profiling.
