Ald. Davis: Blacks use illegal drug trade for economic needs

In a statement expressing his frustration with how growth in the local economy bypasses black males in the city, Ald. Joe Davis said Friday that the illegal drug trade is the "common way" for many African-Americans to provide for their basic financial needs.

Davis, who is African-American, entitled his statement: "Divide and conquer politics stagnates Milwaukee's economy, shuts out black males." {snip}

Davis said the city's rate of economic growth involving the private sector was "pathetic." He added that that poor performance was directly related to the city's crime rate.

"We accept group homes, day cares, gas stations and corner grocery stores as a pro business growth strategy while other local economies are looking at us in the rear view mirror. I shake my head as the City of Kenosha has landed Amazon's distribution center while City of Milwaukee officials are sitting on the sidelines crying, 'What about me?' "

Davis conceded people would be offended by his statement. He continued: "The illegal drug trade is the common way in the City of Milwaukee's African American community of providing the basic financial needs of many residents, and its mere presence is creating instability that is directly related to our violent crime statistics. We fight over minuscule issues that could unite us, but we are stuck in the past of 'Divide and Conquer.' Now we want to spend $500,000 on police overtime, but fight not to invest the same amount in African American men and boys who will be the target of strict law enforcement because of our dismal local economy in their community."

Estimates vary, but academic and labor experts say the unemployment rate in the African-American community is at least 40% or perhaps higher.

The alderman is right, becoming a drug pusher in the black ghetto of Milwaukee is a perfectly rational economic reaction to that society. It is no less a rational than a bunch of very wealthy contributors to Brack Obama starting up a solar energy company. Both are responding to an artificial market created by the government and in each market the government engages in price support.

It is also perfectly logical for Amazon to locate its distribution center in Kenosha which is relatively safe from the wreckage caused by the government's drug policies.

You see, the system works for everyone. The young black entrepreneur finds a way to compensate for his lack of education and attain quick riches. The alderman gets to profit from African-American victimology. White politicians get to proclaim their righteousness and opposition to drugs. Big business gets to operate relatively free of the cancers which are destroying our society. The drug abusers in the suburbs get to acquire their drugs while the obvious damage of the drug culture seems to be limited to inner city.

It's a win-win all around.

Drugs create poverty and Government Dependency. Welfare money and other government handouts finance the drug trade. Direct Government payouts to the Black Overseers keep the slaves on the Democrat Plantation, and in this circle of misery.

I believe the problem was that blacks were moving into northern cities to take jobs that were on their way out of the country; when they first came up from the South in numbers into the northeast they were working. Over time as the jobs left they stayed on with no work, and never adapted to a non-manufacturing economy (they still haven’t for the most part).

I grew up without about 90% of this stuff. Somehow, I managed to pay attention in school long enough to learn the basics of the English language and arithmetic.

Urban American blacks have a higher standard of living than the overwhelming majority of people on this planet. To listen to them, though, they are not only the absolute poorest people on the planet, but it’s all because of white people holding them down.

If poverty causes crime, then why isn’t there way more crime in über-poor areas of Southeast Asia?

If the difference in wealth between you and those in the society around you causes crime (the jealousy effect), then why aren’t members of America’s middle class regularly mugging and burglarizing the upper class?

I get it. Keep drugs illegal, but let blacks sell them because they have to earn a living somehow. Using drugs in the black community is OK because it helps make living in the inner city tolerable.
