President Barack Obama on Friday urged people not to boycott the 2014 Winter Olympics taking place in Sochi, Russia over the country’s new law against gay rights activism.

“I want to just make very clear right now: I do not think it’s appropriate to boycott the Olympics,” Obama said. “We’ve got a bunch of Americans out there who are training hard, who are doing everything they can to succeed.” …

You can predict the script. A bunch of gay activists will show up for the Olympics, and promptly get arrested by the Russian cops. The President will lead on with some blunt statements that this was terribly wrong to arrest these folks. Then the President wants to show up and be part of the Olympic festive situation, and Putin’s cops make the work of the Secret Service guys just absolutely miserable, with creative traffic jams keeping them stalled for hours on some road, and chaos at every event he attends.
