Emergency workers and community members in eastern Missouri are not sure what to make of a mystery priest who showed up at a critical accident scene Sunday morning and whose prayer seemed to change life-threatening events for the positive.
Even odder, the black-garbed priest does not appear in any of the nearly 70 photos of the scene of the accident in which a 19-year-old girl almost died. No one knows the priest and he vanished without a word, said Raymond Reed, fire chief of New London, Mo.
"I think it's a miracle," Reed said. "I would say whether it was an angel that was sent to us in the form of a priest or a priest that became our angel, I don't know. Either way, I'm good with it."
Carla Churchill Lentz, mother of the teen who was critically injured, said emergency workers have told her there is no way her daughter should have lived inside such a mangled car. Of the priest, she said, "I do believe he certainly could have been an angel dressed in priest's attire because the Bible tells us there are angels among us."
The scene unfolded Sunday morning. Katie Lentz, a sophomore at Tulane University, was driving from her parents' home in Quincy, Ill., to Jefferson City, Mo., where she has a summer internship and planned to attend church with friends.

I could have -sworn- someone posted a day or two ago about a priest appearing out of nowhere at a traffic accident in New York State, with remarkably similar details...
Never mind, that’s the article from the Daily Mail I was thinking of. No idea why I thought it was in New York.
Blessed Padre Pio had the extraordinary gift of bilocation.
Ghost or angel? Wonder if there have been other incidents on that stretch of road.
This story certainly is a cheerer of the soul!
Physical description?
This story does warm the soul, a reminder during these dark times that we should all get on our knees and pray!
Where did that come from?
It’s a very nice story but I don’t think you need a miracle to explain what happened.
Everyone was panicking. A priest who happened to come along calmed everyone down and then they could do their jobs.
Commendable but not necessarily a miracle.
Please explain the photo.
I’ve had someone dissappear on me before.
Specifically once when I failed a simple test of Christian virtue.
Angels are among us and we are oft unaware.
Even the cameras that took all the pictures at the scene?
Since no cars were being allowed in or out of the area how did he get to the accident?
Either he walked or he flew.
I would help and then disappear, too. The last thing you want is your name out there or media attention.
There are photos of him. I saw one.
No mystery, just Christ’s example in action.
I think he diappeared to avoid the attention, as you said. Hope he stays hidden.
Definitely an angel.
The priest does not show up in any pictures of the scene.
