Cleveland Police Disciplining 75 Cops After An Unarmed Couple Was Shot At 137 Times

Cleveland police officials said Friday they're disciplining 75 of officers for their involvement in a police chase that ended in the shooting deaths of an unarmed man and woman, The Plain Dealer reports.

The pair were shot at 137 times while in their car, parked in a middle school parking lot. No officers were injured in what police called a "full blown-out" firefight.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine told reporters in February that "there is nothing normal about this case. ... This is a tragedy."

In November, about 60 police vehicles pursued the two suspects in a 25-minute chase spanning three cities. One suspect, 30-year-old Malissa Williams, was shot 24 times, and the other, 43-year-old Timothy Russell, was shot 23 times.

~snip~

But after the chase ended in a gunfight near Heritage Middle School, police checked the car and realized neither Williams nor Russell was armed.

In this case, it was clear that running from the cops was a prudent and reasonable action.

When someone is trying to kill you with no cause, then you have two options: Fight or flight. That’s biological programming.

They had no means to fight, so they were fleeing.

Running from the police puts the police in no imminent danger of losing their lives or great bodily harm, so the cops have no justification whatsoever for using lethal force. Period, end of discussion.

I can’t help believe that events like this, as well as the endemic killing of family dogs is some kind of paramilitary crap taught by the brain-dead soldier-wannabes who could never be that work at the police academies.

Its happening too often for mere coincidence.

Some news agency should send an undedcover police “recruit” into these police academies to find out what they are teaching these NAZIs.

LMAO. I don’t care if you respect me or not. Cops have turned into killers that we cannot trust.

After reading the OH AG’s report, I can say this:

1. Those cops are incompetent. They endangered their fellow officers. The bullet holds in some of the cop’s cars were caused by other cops. Since the decedents possessed no guns, there is no other conclusion that can be drawn.

2. The “evidence” upon which the assumption was made that the decedents were armed is speciously thin. As the car “was passing by,” an officer “heard” a loud report that “sounded like a gunshot?”

Then the completely specious report that the passenger was “aiming a gun out the back window.”

Yea, that’s hilarious. Broadcast that over the radio net, and suddenly everyone is in on the chase.

3. The final situation looks like something out of the Keystone Cops capers.

All the officers in on this mess should be fired, lose any pension vesting that they have and be prohibited from working in any public capacity ever again. They’re simply too incompetent for the job at hand.

The truth is the 75 hero cops thought they saw a dog in the car and it barked at them and they were afraid of being attacked.

Well it sound as good as the BS coming from the cops.

Nothing? Most (sane) people would agree that running from the cops just doesn't end well.

And that justifies summary execution!?

> True, and these weren't a couple of innocents, as they were found to be high on coke and MJ.

Legally they were not guilty, they had not been declared guilty by a jury in a court of law… but when did summary executions become ok if someone was breaking a law?

Can’t really work up any tears for scum who runs from or tries to fight the police.

Not even these people? Or these?

I guess the alternative is to let criminals know cops won't chase them if they start driving a little crazy.

Ah, so they can't simply keep following the crazy driver? Wait for him to stop or run out of gas? They're perfectly justified in using lethal force?
Um, I think you need to read this.

Maybe not. But if cops will overreact here, when and who else will be the victim of their next cluster !%@#.
Remember the 3 innocent victims in the Dorner hunt.

They weren't innocent! They were guilty of, of, of obstructing! Yeeah! Obstructing an Officer, Obstructing the Line of Fire!

Second question irrelevant. No innocent people were harmed. Either by a drunk and stoned driver, or the cops who stopped him.

Tell me, what is your take on Waco, or Ruby Ridge?

Yep. Right or wrong, the time to argue your point is decidedly not with a heavily armed man at the side of the road.

That's why the police are afraid of people availing themselves of the Right to Keep and Bear arms.

My family would get out of the way.

At 85 MHP? Depending on the road-terrain they might not ever see it.

Gunfight? There was no gunfight, this was an unjustifiable shooting of two civilians. Maybe they were criminals but they didn't shoot at the police and the cops involved should all be in jail.

So you two guys think it is ok for cops to shoot people full of holes simply because they ran from the cops and because they were doing drugs. Last I heard neither one of those actions carries the death penalty. The couple were stopped in a parking lot, not firing at the cops, unarmed and you think this was ok because the people killed were doing drugs? What a couple of idiots.

Well, if you don't trust them, be sure to run from them when they try to pull you over. You have no idea what they have planned for you.

And if they catch up, be sure to fight them. You may be fighting for your life.

Maybe your sad fate will be another inspiration here on FR.

Me, I'll pull over and talk to the cop.

Unless I'm drunk or high on blow. Then, look out!!!

They "deserved" whatever resulted from the mayhem THEY initiated.

If you believe otherwise I cannot possibly respect you.

Really?! They deserved to be shot that many times while unarmed sitting in their car? Really! So you have no problem with out of control trigger happy cops?

I also "believe otherwise" and I'm not asking for your respect, there's an obvious problem here.
