The office of George W. Bush revealed the former president had heart surgery Tuesday morning.
According to a press release, doctors discovered a blockage in an artery in Bush's heart during the former president's annual physical examination at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas.
Bush agreed to have a stent placed to open the blockage and successfully completed the surgery Tuesday morning without complication at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital.

Placing a stent is not surgery.
I know. I’m not allowed to change the title though.
So how do they get it in? Through his nose?
It’s surgery because it is an invasive process. It’s not open heart surgery. But cutting into someone is surgery.
Prayers for this good man to have a rapid and complete recovery...and no more problems with this issue! God bless him and Laura!
GW prayer ping!
I had 3 stents implanted a while ago and doing fine. The doctors told my my body had created one of it’s own to bypass a problem. Interesting.
Poppycock. What is your personal definition of surgery?
My sister’s heart “grew a bypass” as well. God created an amazing system, huh?
“But cutting into someone is surgery.”
There is no cutting. The stent is usually inserted by catheter through the groin area, up the artery to the heart.
While I’m personally inclined to agree with you, the last time I had a stent put in they (the Cardiologist, other doc and nurses) said it was a ‘procedure’ and not a ‘surgery’. I’m not sure what the distinction is.
They can call it whatever they want, as long as I’m feeling better when they’re done.
All of that said- it’s not that difficult to go through. Hope he didn’t have a heart attack to put him on the table like a lot of us do.
“Placing a stent is not surgery.”
Indeed. It’s a procedure. But everyone should know by now that reporters don’t actually KNOW anything about what they huff and puff about.
Prayers up!
I beg to differ with you...what would you call the procedure?
any time a person is sedated and unaware...it is medically called surgery..I have lived with a heart diseased person for 52 years...a quad bypass, and stents number of times, and now his second defibrillator is implanted...they have come a long way with caring for the heart...how thankful we who have endured this know...
this morning my brother in law just was released from hospital after having two stents implanted...a family of eight males, all with heart disease...inherited from both sides of the family...
we wish GWB the best..he is a strong willed man and will do well..
and we don't know how they did GWB, only the doctors reporting he HAD HEART SURGERY...
No need to cut for one stent (preventative).
It's an invasive, and not fool-proof,procedure.I have a saying that I picked up after having worked in a hospital for 20 years...."minor surgery is surgery done on someone else".
This is a surprise given the former president’s regimen for exercise and outdoor work.
Our neighbor's mom stroked out during an angiogram; left her with very poor vision for the rest of her life.
The worst part is the twelve hours of total immobility following that little groin incision into the artery.
