In 2008 and then again in 2012, after retired four-star General Colin Powell endorsed and then voted for Barack Obama, the former Secretary of State's sanity was already in question. At least now, after having his email account hacked by high-level security-breacher Guccifer, Colin Powell's besmirching of the Republican Party's "shift to the right" and "identity crisis" finally makes sense.
It seems that for years the mannerly and always professional Colin Powell has been cyber-comporting with a 46-year-old Romanian European Parliament member, Social Democrat, and past spokesperson for Romanian president Ion Iliescu named Corina Creţu. So it's safe to say that Colin Powell was probably the one in the throes of an "identity crisis."

Do we even bother with clearances anymore? Honestly...with the bunch we've had running this country for the last 25 years I don't see how it's worth the trouble. We've elected traitors and worse to the highest office in the land...why should we?
Colin cancer.
Your argument for powell as a realist dies here. He's the weak spined asswipe who begged GHWB not to march on Baghdad. He was the weakest link in the chain. Otherwise your Realist vs Neocon argument is spot on.
Powell was neither a Realist or Neocon. He was an unqualified affirmative action guy who looked good on camera.
Corina
Since he's an Obama supporter, he will likely get a pass by the media.
I find him singularly un-attractive and un-sexy....homely plain is more descriptive, I would say.
The uniform helped him a little...but then, a uniform generally does.
For instance, take General Petraeus....please.

The US had no legal basis for going into Iraq. More importantly, there was no exit strategy for invading Iraq. This was proven later when GW Bush and the NeoCons invaded Iraq. Remember what the NeoCons said. "We will be in and out of Iraq in no time at all". They got stuck there with no way the get out. It was the Realists who pull the NeoCons' nuts out of the fire.
The Powell Doctrine clearly states the criteria that must be met before the US intervenes And the main criteria is an exit strategy. GHW Bush did invoke the Powell Doctrine. GW Bush/Dick Cheney did not invoke the Powell Doctrine. Obama did invoke the Powell doctrine in Afghanistan.
OTOH, GW Bush/Dick Cheney followed the Wolfowitz (NeoCon) Doctrine.
That and she would have had to cyber flirt with him...I suppose.
Ugh. I don’t like Sarah compared ti a eurotrash whore!
Just another typical liberal is exposed.
You betcha!
“The Powell Doctrine clearly states the criteria that must be met before the US intervenes And the main criteria is an exit strategy.”
Not really, if you are talking about Gulf War I. There was no “Powell Doctrine.” I think you meant Weinberger Principles.
Basically, Colin Powell, Storming Norman personally learned from Vietnam Experience and they didnt go for this gradualism thing like in Vietnam. They also didn’t do the Shut-up in Color routine that LBJ insisted on with his generals. They offered the president their best advice.
Most important of all: Bush/Cheney let the military do its thing. . .in accordance with the “Weinberger Principles”
These principles state:
-Use Troops When Political Efforts Fail
-Go to War When you Intend to WIN
-Go to War When it is Vital to US National Interests
-You Win When you have Well-Defined Political-Military Goals and End-State
-You Win When You Reassess Size, Composition and Mission
-You Win When You Have the Support of the American People
As you can see, an “exit strategy” was never part of the principles and rightly so, as a “strategy” is not a principle of war.
Now, if you are talking about Gulf War II, then we enter a whole different arena. . .
Colin is proof positive of the evil in “Affirmative Action” which, he has praised for his success, numerous times.
Well, when you have to cheat, which is what government sanctioned discrimination is, by using “Affirmative Action”, nobody knows, including yourself, if you are a success or not.
Affirmative Action is to Colin what Steroids are to MLB and that is cheating.
As he did not have to achieve his success honestly, cheating and lack of loyalty must have come very easy to him. We all know what his lack of loyalty has done.
I can hear her in my ears right now!
*snicker*
My memory and understanding is that Powell did not run for presidential office was because he wife, Alma, has a long history of depression.
She did not want him to run and, I think, her depression was one reason he didn't go for the 1st prize. Maybe there were other reasons as well.
Lol, too funny
He [General Shinseki] was the target of immediate rebuke from the Pentagon leadership, in particular from Donald H. Rumsfeld, then secretary of defense, and his deputy, Paul D. Wolfowitz. Mr. Wolfowitz dismissed the testimony as wildly off the mark.
Some civilians in government and military officers say General Shinsekis treatment intimidated other top officers.
It sent a very clear signal to the military leadership about how that kind of military judgment was going to be valued, said Kori Schake, the director for defense strategy on the National Security Council staff from 2002 to 2005, now a fellow at the Hoover Institution and a professor at West Point. So it served to silence critics just at the point in time when, internal to the process, you most wanted critical judgment.
FYI General Shinseki was proven correct in his judgement that too few troops were in Iraq to secure the county. The Neocons were AGAIN proven wrong.
“Most important of all: Bush/Cheney let the military do its thing. . .in accordance with the Weinberger Principles
I was speaking of Gulf War I.
You obviously didn’t read the entire post. You missed this part: “Now, if you are talking about Gulf War II, then we enter a whole different arena.”
Always helps to read the entire post.
I heard he got through college on D’s.
He’s poster boy for US Military ‘affirmative action’.
His ‘Mr. Nice Guy’ performance on the old Basra road got us where we are NOW!
Thanks Colin!
Opps, sorry I was talking Gulf War 2.
No worries.
Cheers.
We know that the term "pottery barn effect" wasn't coined by Powell but he endorsed it and welcomed its inclusion.
BTW, I already know the neocon talking points.
As for your statement that "Bush/Cheney let the military do its thing", that is a crock of crap. The US military didn't want to invade Iraq with an underwhelming force. They were force to because the NeoCons were worried about public opinion.
