Washington state legislator Rep. Matt Shea (R) says preparation is crucial to get ready for what he calls "the inevitable collapse" of the US economy.
The Self-Reliance Rally event at an Idaho State Park had several speakers encouraging attendees to prepare by gathering arms and ammunition and considering forming militias.
"When it happens, we need to look at this as a opportunity, not a crisis," Shea said. "Who's job is liberty? That's our job."
Shea told the crowd to stock up on ammunition, stay in shape, practice shooting, learn self defense and special tactics.
He related a story from when he was in the military where a superior officer told him to remember an important lesson.
"Be prepared at any given moment to give up your job to do what is right," he said. "You have to stand up for what is right - even if it means you have to stand up to your government," Shea's superior officer allegedly told him.

From eastern Washington, similar to north Idaho. Ruby Ridge has never left our minds.
“And that mass death will come largely because we have become overly reliant on the technologies that make our usual life possible, and we have no backup plan in case it all collapses.”
Some of us have backup plans. I’m okay if it collapses tomorrow.
You are scaring me. I guess that is a good thing. Fear leads to action.
Yabbut, the only time you have too much is when you are trying to swim with it or are on fire...
And while you’re at it, buy stock in Ruger, Winchester and Smith & Wesson. Might as well make a profit off the panic.
looks like things are catching up again. Though I don't expect prices to fall back to where they were for some time...if at all.
LOL...I din’t mean to suggest that I had too much...ordered some 9mm early this morning...added some 30.06 last week...
You are free to disagree. However, their housing bubble will make ours like a miniscule correction. They define GDP in a way that is downright moronic.
That is the reason they build entirely new cities that remain unoccupied. Then they continue to build, putting phony numbers out there in regards to their builing “boom”.
America’s biggest problem is that when China falls apart they will call in their debts.
My last comment was tongue in check...about Bush...
If we ended the taxing of money made overseas by Americans and American companies, some of that money would come back here, meaning the possibility of more jobs.
Further thought...when you’re trying to swim with it (and drag it through mud, it better be an AK47...just hopin’ you have enough full mags...and a couple thousand rds in your saddle bags...
I know. Yet, my question was not, tongue in check, or cheek.
I have the bases covered, as much as I want to carry, and then resupply tucked away here and there. Snow is more of an enemy here than mud, most of the year—dust comes in second.
My biggest complaint about Bush is he did not address his attackers...which emboldened the libtarts to delegitimize the conservative brand and in many ways got us to Obama...
After all if you don’t defend yourselves even against the most vile defamatory lies and smears....after a while they stick to you...even if completely untrue...
Which in turn hurt the GOP...and conservatives in general....
The GOP has lost the millennium generation until they grow up and move out of mommies basement....
You would know as soon as you jumped in your car and it wouldn’t start. Or your other car or the neighbors. The planes falling out of the sky would be a big hint too...
I thought about the car not starting. That would be the only way we could get a hint.
I understand your position. Thanks, Popman.
