Sad about the guy ... but who watches NBC News anyway? Does anyone but his family even know who he is? Er, was.

I’m sure the MRC can find examples of liberal bias in his reporting but he was one of those who came across so bland you hardly even noticed him. NBC News had several of those guys. Might have been a good reporter, might not, but he was the old-style tv reporter whose bias was more subtle than the “reporters” today.

NBC (National Bureau of Communists).

I simply see this passing away as one less of the enemy.

It’s AP. I won’t believe it until I see the body.

Actually he is sort of a Dobyns Bennett Highschool Hero. He was well known here and frequently returned.

He was especially fond of lauding one specific teacher he credited for encouraging him to develop his writing and speaking skills.

He did what he wanted to do from early on.

There's a lot to be said for that.

It's nice that he was appreciated and shared with his old schoool.

We happened to see the lengthy and sappy NBC tribute to Palmer by Andrea Mitchell last night during the evening news. My first impression was that Andrea Mitchell had an affair with Palmer. She was over-the-moon gushing over this man.

Second, we noted the tribute to John Palmer lasted longer than any of the news segments last night. The man who reported the news was bigger than U.S. and World news events.

Finally, neither of us remembered him from his reporting days.

The exact report was repeated in it’s entirety on Sunday Today. We remembered him but also thought this was as if Chet Huntley or David Brinkley had died.

Jon Palmer was an old school journalist and fairly neutral in his reporting. I always liked him. He was from Kingsport in East Tennessee and always gave shout outs to the home folks.

Journalists think they ARE the news, not reporting the news.

Does anyone but his family even know who he is? Er, was.

Uh, yes. Some of us do. He and I graduated from the same high school. Though I have not watched any television in years, I recall him as a real journalist, as he was first instructed at Dobyns Bennett High School in Kingsport, Tenn.

Hope this helps a little.

There are more worthy targets for snark than John Palmer.

I'm sure there are, but on the other hand, "longtime NBC News correspondent."
