'Officer of the Year' caught on camera attacking 60-year-old man asking for help

An 'Officer of the Year' for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is now under investigation after security footage was released showing him attacking a 60-year-old man who was just reporting a burglary.

Last September, victim Brian Hudkins was in town for a business conference. He was staying at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis with one of his employees, Andrew Davis.

After dinner, the two went back to the hotel, but Davis was locked out of his room. He heard people behind the door and called Hudkins, believing it was a burglary. The two went downstairs to report the incident to hotel management and asked that they call the police.

Officer T. Michael Wilson responded to the call, and his exchange with the two men was recorded on hotel security camera footage obtained by WISH.

After only 16 seconds speaking to the two men, Officer Wilson tackled Mr Hudkins to the ground.

Wilson wrote in his report that Mr Hudkins was told to 'quiet' down and refused.

The officer said he 'attempted to push Mr Hudkins backwards and away from the situation' but the man 'forcibly' pushed backwards.

The surveillance footage shows quite a different story....

WISH showed the video to Police Chief Rick Hite, who said he had never seen the video before. The station later found out it was sent to the department five months ago......

Since the incident, Hudkins has filed a lawsuit asking for $700,000 in damages.

He says that he was forced to give a guilty plea the night he was arrested to get the charges off his record.

They also made him promise to stay away from the hotel and donate $500 to a police charity.

A “guilty” plea and a $500 shakedown. Nice.

I believe it, intimidation is the police way. Do as I say or I'll destroy you.

All "Officers of the Year" should be on a watch list:

Former Philadelphia police officer Richard DeCoatsworth, once honored by President Barack Obama for his heroism, remains in jail on $60 million bail for allegedly raping two women -- forcing one into prostitution.

They can get away with murder, why not a little grease on the side.

These are the same “Officers” that Obama will recruit to shoot at citizens (sorry Seattle) who oppose his dictatorial rule. The American Stasi.

How many of those does it take to win 'Officer of the Year'?

Is there a quota system or do they rate each one like judges at a diving contest to decide the winner?

If the officer had responded as he was trained he would simply have shot the man and then said, “I felt threatened.” There would have been no investigation and he would have gotten a richly deserved extra paid vacation.

What the heck?!

Forcing people to donate to politically favored charities as a condition of a plea is very common these days.

I noticed that, too. Talk about adding insult to injury. $500 for a shakedown to give the same scumbags who threatened you instead of protecting you. I hope Hudkins makes it $3 million for damages as it’s a slam dunk win.

Correct. I know tons of lawyers in our area who already have 8 figures minimum for a sure-win in court.

It’s sad to have to wonder which is the case.

There’s a story about a cop in southern CA being brought up on charges that he pepper-sprayed a take-out pizza in the back seat of somebody’s car when they weren’t looking, presumably just for the hell of it.
