I am not even an old-timer, and some of these snide remarks come from people who signed up in 2001 or 2002, which was making me wonder how they could be FReepers for so long and so negative and unlike other FReepers.
I also found myself wondering why, if they had been FReepers since the 20th century, I hadn’t seen their names before this sudden unpleasant comment!

I've been following political scandals since Watergate - how the media cover them and how the population reacts - and have to say that although I'm not a 'perennial sad sack' its not unreasonable to conclude that it is extremely unlikely that there will ever be a cataclysmic collapse of a democrat administration a political scandal.
Its just the way it is.
But by all means, we should scream our bloody lungs out, because theres always a chance those undecideds might be listening. Just don't expect immediate change.

You see the same kinds show up during primary seasons, pushing their candidates — and they aren’t all Democrats.
Some of the worst ones who are expert alinskyites have been around for a while. They can sling mud with the best of the LibDems.

You left out the “Mean-spirited” Conservative who makes inflamatory statements that fit the “teabagger” narrative of the left by making Freepers look heartless, racist, etc.
Regardless, I think the solution is to simply correct all of these derogatory posts with conservative ideals which I think is happening most of the time.

As a side note:
I get so sick of hearing “the Downer”, I hear it a lot when I’m debating with people in person. It seems to be a way of dismissing the conversation and changing the subject to something besides politics.
Also, I have long noticed that when debating in person against liberals whenever you win a point they will counter with the “they all do it” meme. When they say that one you know you’ve convinced them of your point but they want to dismiss it as something that is excusable because they want you to think that your side does it too. That it’s the norm, which is rarely actually true.
Debating liberals is truly casting pearls of wisdom before swine. It’s hopeless because you can never stipulate the truth of anything. They are dealing with their own set of ‘made up’, delusional facts and you can show them on paper where what you are saying is true and they will still deny them. They’re hopelessly brainwashed.
There’s some truth in this but do not discount a healthy discussion on WHY such an announcement is made on such and such media outlet (indeed, sometimes a single MSM outlet), and in such a way as to subtly change the dialog. There is the time-proven tactic of getting out in front of a story.
I don’t trust ANY of them as far as I can throw them and when there is something so out of the ordinary, something that screams “hey, this is different,” the skeptic - or perhaps cynic - in me comes to the fore.
