Trayvon Martin’s Parents Meet With Federal Authorities In Miami

The parents of Trayvon Martin and their lawyer met with Justice Department prosecutors and FBI agents at the U.S. attorney’s office in Miami Wednesday to discuss the status of a criminal civil-rights investigation into the fatal shooting of their teen-age son last year.

The federal investigation, which was opened while George Zimmerman faced prosecution for the death of the 17-year-old, gained renewed interest last month after Zimmerman was acquitted in state court of Martin’s killing in a Sanford gated community.

Prosecutors with the Justice Department’s criminal civil-rights section and FBI agents from Central Florida met with the late teen’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, and their attorney, Benjamin Crump, to bring the family up to speed, according to sources familiar with the meeting.

The meeting was held in Miami to accommodate the parents. Trayvon had lived with his mother in Miami Gardens before his death, which occurred while he was visiting his father in Sanford.

A spokeswoman for the Miami U.S. attorney’s office confirmed the meeting took place there Wednesday, but she could not say who was present. A spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office in Tampa referred a reporter’s call to the Justice Department, which declined to comment because of the “ongoing” investigation.

If the Justice Department were to pursue criminal civil-rights charges against Zimmerman, the case would be filed in the Middle District of Florida, which includes Sanford, north of Orlando.

Yep. If there was a position to be filled at our embassy in Benghazi they’d offer George a job there right before 09/11.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

Too bad — you tried to make a federal case out of it and failed. Why not try a civil case so Zimmerman can countersue.

You're right...this should never have been a story beyond the the size of a typical local story. But as an example of the further mental unraveling and bankrupt moral philosophy of the liberals, it's a great example.

Libs can't let go of this story, because they need to keep the myth of white supremacy and oppression of "minorities" going. That virtually everything backfired on them is little reason for conservatives to gloat. About the only good think to come out of this, other than Zimmerman being acquitted, is more Americans knowing how much crime young, black males commit. In the aftermath of the trial, I've never heard so many statements by various people about the young, black male crime problem.

It won't affect the liberal agenda much or at all, but it might make more independent American voters aware of black crime. And how liberals exacerbate that problem.

All things considered, could they be driven by a large dose of parental guilt as well as parental grief and celebrity indignant victimization?

The arm isn’t hanging straight down. The arm is turned outside, it goes down at a steep angle to the elbo, and is then raised up behind Barry and on over to his shoulder.

It was probably a last moment decision, and didn’t get to the resting location before the shot was taken.

The cases don't have much in common, and I can't see a good reason to link them.

OJ probably killed Nicole and her boyfriend, but got off because the jury somehow found reasonable doubt as to whether it was OJ or somebody else.

Martin assaulted Zimmerman and likely intended to finish him off by pounding his Zimmerman's head into the concrete sidewalk. The jury had a ridiculously easy case of aquitting Zimmerman because the evidence was overwhelming that it was self defense. The only reason there Martin is not seen as a street thug who got himself killed by an innocent watchman is because of a bigoted hate campaign.

Neither of these cases ought be about race, and I don't think it a good thing to counter one with the other. The answer to those who are bigoted toward whites is not to put down blacks.

Is Sybrina still out on personal leave from her job (after more than a year) or did she “retire”? If she is still on the government payroll the taxpayers in Miami should be outraged. I’m sure the press has investigated this thoroughly.

If she is still on the government payroll the taxpayers in Miami should be outraged. ................................. LOL, $he has been given a career, $he no longer need$ to work, the $$$$$ is just flowing in. Trayvon has given them more than they would have ever expected had he not been involved. They won’t be hurting, and George doesn’t have a case against them. I’m sure they aren’t worrying about having to pay George anything. The longer they keep this going the more $$$$$$$$ comes in.

“to bring the family up to speed”

Seems like that could have been done over the phone - but then we wouldn’t have a story about it.

I guess that’s why they don’t have time to drop in on the Benghazi suspect...

Did DOJ bring the Fast and Furious families up to speed?

This DOJ is a “secret police” tool, not an american justice office.

The dimbulb party is just the tool of the demonic conspiracy set to complete the destruction of the USA. It will take a lot more than the end of the dimbulb party to save this country.
