Several prominent voices in the alternative media are speculating that former CIA analyst and NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden could be a double agent whose revelations are only serving to distract from the much bigger issue of the imminent escalation of the war in Syria.

LOL -- That's the funniest thing I've read all day.
(Oversight!? Fast and Furious? Benghazi? The IRS? The NSA? Obamacare's unlawful passage [house vs senate]? USSC unlawfully declaring Obamacare constitutional [Courts have no authority to rewrite law]? — …and that's just off the top of my head.)
That’s an excellent question, and add to it the FZort Hood murderer. But the answer is easy: (1) political correctness, (2) forest and the trees - NSA has been looking at the former, in love with its clever algorithms and humongous ranges of surveillance, while missing the latter, because of #(1).
What do we do?
Demand to tear it to the ground?
Obama would LOVE THAT.
It is a problem that Obama has the Gov stacked from top to bottom with extremists.
Caution, gentlemen:
The video is from InfoWars.
Credibility ??? NOT
But does the government deserve this trust?
Has the government had a history of doing unlawful things and then covering for itself?
be a government employee.
it's ok because they were [alleged] pedophilesjustification.
"Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." — George WashingtonYour arguing that if we really trusted fire we should bring it out to the livingroom floor, instead of keeping it locked away in the fireplace.
Obama owns this.
1. How are the activities of the NSA/CSS regulated and who monitors them?
The U.S. Constitution, federal law, executive order, and regulations of the Executive Branch govern NSA’s activities. As a Defense Agency, NSA operates under the authority of the Department of Defense. As a member of the Intelligence Community, NSA also operates under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. NSA/CSS activities are subject to strict scrutiny and oversight both from outside and from within. External bodies such as the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI), the President’s Intelligence Oversight Board, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, the Department of Defense, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the Department of Justice help ensure that NSA adheres to U.S. laws and regulations that are applicable to the Agency’s activities. Internally, the Office of the Inspector General conducts inspections, audits, and investigations to make certain that NSA/CSS operates with integrity, efficiency, and effectiveness while the Office of the General Counsel provides legal advice. The Office of Compliance ensures the Agency conforms to the standards, policies, and standards under which it operates. Most importantly, each NSA/CSS employee is charged with knowing, understanding, and obeying to the fullest the laws of the nation.
Information overload. The computers spit out only the names and info that match preset criteria. There are not enough human agents to then vet those names and info. However, if an op enters a name or SS# or what have you then he gets all the info for that entry and sends the drones or just checks your cell phone to find out where you are right or looks at the set-top-box camera/mic data to see what you were doing last night in front of the TV in your bedroom.
You're right; it does not add up… and here's why:
The surveillance is not about terrorists, though that's what's used to justify it, but about getting information on the people.
Or, to put it another way: it depends on what your definition of terrorist is.
This administration has made it clear that it considers Constitutionalists, people who oppose abortion, returning veterans as [potential] terrorists.
It's also likely they consider anyone with leadership skills, enough to rally the people challenge them, to be a Supreme Master Terrorist.
It is about control, of you and everyone else. That is why it does not add up.
“I believe the revealed documents are out of context, they are not seen within the purview of the entire operation.”
Snowden is at least the 3rd insider who has revealed the same things. Snowden has revealed this to a deeper degree. But you are entitled to your opinion.
“Operatives have been warned off of looking at this stuff which is out of context.”
Again, this is an opinion, but you are entitled.
Your example is interesting, but in this case the 4th amendment is clear. There MUST be probable cause and a warrant must be issued and it must be specific. Collecting all data about everyone is a violation.
I agree that this is targeted.
I do not believe they are looking at EVERYONE ALL THE TIME.
It is to much data.
Snowden would have you believe that.
Heck, I cannot keep up with live threads on FR LOL
The Boston bombing was also used to continue the “spontaneous’ lie.
First they made the claim the 2 terrorist had an attack planned for July 4th then just a couple of days before the Boston attack changed their plans and without any advanced planning carried out the attack in Boston then “spontaneously” planned an attack for NYC.
You’re damn right it doesn’t add up unless you suspend all disbelief.
People are being misled big time.
Collecting is probably within the law.
Sifting through it without a warrant could be an issue.
The garbage man picks up plenty of info twice a week.
“Collecting is probably within the law.”
Stalking without probable cause.
“The garbage man picks up plenty of info twice a week.”
I don’t believe they collect it, organize it by name, find out who your connections are, look at credit card receipts for everything you spend money on, collect all your pictures, etc. They pick up trash and bury it.
I think, JMHO, that Boston was a trial balloon to see if the people would accept martial law.
The people loved it.
Law enforcement got overtime and got to play with cool weapons...
Obama got to crow that he got the bad guy.
If I was running an organization they would not be burying it LOL
Nor would Sherlock Holmes.

DiscloseTV my ass.
If you use Credit cards or debit they know where and when you bought what.
I think they can probably track cash with RFID at Points of withdrawal and sales.
You could fill in the gaps on personal transactions by noting where the money went off the trail and where it emerged.
The more off radar transactions, the more difficult it would be to fill the gaps.
All this stuff has always got on.
Until I see proof that this was done without judicial approval, there is nothing here to see.
I KNOW for FACT that Snowden broke espionage laws.
Why is it today seems like New World Order shill day? Mindless attacks on Paul on another thread, relentlessly going after Snowden here.
I forgot to add one caveuat to Republicans I will never vote for and that’s the NeoCons calling Snowden a traitor. Bums.
Now as to your argument, I find that you want to believe in your country which is noble, and you think collecting the data much like one collects trash is just fine. Once again why are you not getting the fact that this data can be used to compile a dossier that shows you are a potential threat someday. Gun Owner? Veteran? Posts all the Time on Free Republic? Speaks about the constitution and the Bill of Rights. Put this guy on a watch list.
Heck maybe they can snag your google password and start trading child porn in your name. Silly of course, but is it? You apparently have no regard for your personal effects?
Plus, what kind of massive public spending of tax dollars went into this without even so much as a discussion? Have you no regard for the money you send to DC? What about the Neo-Fascist forced government-corporate partnerships.
