Archeologists conducting excavations at the site of a church in Turkey have unearthed a stone chest containing a relic that may be part of the cross on which Jesus was crucified.
The items were discovered during a large-scale excavation at the Balatlar Church, which was built in A.D. 660 near the Black Sea, Today's Zaman reported.
Professor Gülgün Köroğlu, an associate professor at Turkey's Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and excavation leader, told the newspaper the artifacts are linked to Jesus' crucifixion.

There is an old saying... There are enough pieces of the True Cross to rebuild Noahs Ark!

Is there any evidence which points to the Apostles taking pieces of the cross with them as they spread the word far and wide?
To: Portcall24
Not that I am aware of... They were probably pretty disgusted by it for several days.

Still, there was a time when it seemed every medieval monastery had what was said to be a sliver of The True Cross, the raw mass of all these bits of wood would suffice to build a modern suburban house at the very least.

Many old sayings are false.
So are many relics of the "true cross".

Some comedian did a routine about Jesus returning to Earth, only to find people worshipping the CROSS he was crucified on, even wearing it around their necks .

Someone actually did a study on this, he found that the splinters added up to a relatively small piece of wood. I have seen a relic of the True Cross which belonged to Padre Pio, it is tiny.

Martin Mull on Fernwood tonight did a hilarious bid about a couple whose son was taken in by a "cult"
'They dress funny, all in black moo-moos, and burn candles, they wear a torture device around their necks'
Their son was a priest.

John Calvin's claims about "true cross relics" were based on his own prejudices and suppositions ... When put to actual test, his claims were found to be without foundation.
True Cross ... I know: Wikipedia. Take it for what it's worth.

I won’t disagree, but the point of the statement has more to do with the number of false relics that have accumulated.
