It's big news here. I'm not sure of the details but Paul W. Smith WJR radio this morning was livid.
Apparently the race baiting media has found a story in the least likely spot. Hillsdale College.

(WXYZ) - The president of Hillsdale College is apologizing for remarks some state lawmakers found racially offensive.
During a subcommittee hearing in Lansing, Hillsdale College President Larry Arnn spoke out against the state adopting common core standards in reading, writing and math.
"They said we violated the standards for diversity because we didn't have enough dark ones, is I guess what they meant."
Arnn later explained he made the statement because he didn't approve of the government interfering with how his private college is run. Arnn says he wasn't trying to insult the federal and state government officials who tried to document the races of Hillsdale students, which the college does not do.

I like that they don’t keep track of the ‘race’ of any student. It should not matter

So he didn’t meet their racial profiling standards?
Why is it okay for government to racially profile?
Diversity standards = racial profiling.

I guess “BLACK” is the only accepted means of referring to people of the darker colors these days.
When I was a lad 60 years ago we called them colored.
Their organization is still called the National Association for the Advancement of colored People, even though we cannot call them Colored People any longer.
The older respected blacks were called Aunt and Uncle.
Terms they hate with a passion now. Blacks go out of their way to pronounce Aunt with the Ahnt sound from those days.
We had a couple wanting to rent the hall for a wedding and in her desire to please them the girl who was bartender asked, What type of drinks do you people wish to have.
Good gawd you would have thought she used the N word.
They went off like cannons. “What do you mean “YOu People”, the girl meant to do nothing but please, but these people went off and demanded an apology and wanted the girl fired. It’s awful hard to fire volunteers.
Yes do not call tham “You People” The “Dark set”, “colored” or anything they can misconstrue.
We have to stick with black I suppose although few of them are actually black, but many shades of darker skin. Oh crap I said darker.

"They said we violated the standards for diversity because we didn't have enough dark ones, is I guess what they meant." What an incredibly STUPID way to phrase whatever point he was trying to make! He is a president of a college, and should know better than to make a public statement with such stupid wording. A better statement would have been something along the lines of "Since we don't judge students or applicants by the color of their skin, we are somehow violating standards for diversity..."

The leftists cannot be happy with Hillsdale College. It's conservative, doesn't accept gummit funding and, evidently, does not track race. Good for Hillsdale!
It was just a matter of time before they (lefties) found something to pick on Hillsdale about. I'd imagine the IRSS (and other gummit branches) have been on the hunt, as well.

I still think we should be classifying peeps by skin color as expressed in a triad of RGB Hex numbers (e.g. 2F4732) based on an actual measurement of the reflectivity of the person's melanin.
It would be way more nuanced than the two binary bins currently used.

I knew exactly what he meant and the simple fact is that the left would react the same way if he had specified "Indonesian, SE asian, Central and South American, African American etc. The left has a seething hatred of Hillsdale college because it operates almost completely without leftist controls and is getting even better all the time.
Hillsdale college is one of the first if not the first college in the country to admit black students. Frederick Douglass spoke at Hillsdale college on at least a couple of occasions.

Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington and Liberty
All I ask is, give him (the Negro) a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone .
If you see him going into a workshop, just let him alone your interference is doing him a positive injury. Thus spoke Frederick Douglass 140 years ago, at the end of the Civil War.
Douglass, in his 1865 speech, stressed this desire for liberty alone. A former slave himself, Douglass shunned special privileges. Everybody has asked the question,
What shall we do with the Negro? I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us. Do nothing with us!
