Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) said Tuesday he has yet to decide whether to support a proposal to block government funding if it includes money for ObamaCare.
Tea Party Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) have ratcheted up the pressure on McConnell to threaten a government shutdown if Democrats refuse to relent on the healthcare overhaul.
Weve had a lot of internal discussions about the way forward this fall in both the continuing resolution and, ultimately, the debt ceiling, and those discussions continue, McConnell said. Theres no particular announcement at this point.
Cruz has gone on a public relations blitz in recent weeks to build support for blocking funds for the implementation of the 2010 Affordable Care Act.
The Texas senator accused his fellow Republicans in Congress of having a defeatist mentality about stopping the laws implementation before the open enrollment period for government-subsidized insurance plans begins in the fall.
On Tuesday, Cruz downplayed the political consequences of threatening a government shutdown. He disputed the conventional wisdom in Washington that the 1995 federal government shutdown was a catastrophe for Republicans.
The world didnt end, Cruz told bloggers at an event sponsored by the Heritage Foundation.
Planes didnt fall out of the sky. Social Security checks didnt stop. Military paychecks didnt stop. We didnt default on our national debt, he said.
Lee and Rubio were also scheduled to speak in favor of linking ObamaCare to the stopgap spending measure that will be necessary to keep government operating beyond the end of September.
What would you do without Free Republic?
Evidently “R” stands for commie-enabler. Obamacare will be a hydrogen bomb on the economy, and amnesty would be like releasing germs on the survivors.
That’s OK Mitch. Just because 80% of the American people want dumbocare gone shouldn’t bother you.
Just keep sucking up to the folks trying to destroy our country.
You and mcLame should just get it over with and become dims.
PLEASE DEAR GOD-SAVE OUR COUNTRY.
Obama’s bitch toy is trying to wiggle out of this one.
The turtle is too busy trashing Bevin as “Not a Conservative” and trashing his family and his family’s business at EVERY commercial break locally, to comment on the “silly” idea of an ObamaCare shutdown.
Turtle doesn’t want to run the risk of Kentuckians pointing out McConnell is simply in the Senate to run interference for Obama.
So like always, Mitch Turtle will be silent and simply act against Conservatives and sabotage Conservatives at every opportunity while pretending to be a Conservative for the primary election in Kentucky.
There is a reason I call the GOP leadership, the Political Judenrats for the MarxoFascists.
The man behind the curtain never weighs in.
How this putrid excuse for a man can look himself in the mirror is beyond me.
Seems Reagan wrote in his presidential diary that there were (at that time) a group of weak knee republicans that played along to get along. He addressed the entire republican boday and told them to give the ball to him and the rest is history.
Where they hell is a Reagan when you need one?
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell go back to your cage and shut up. Nothing will stop the rape on Americans.
No one can see something that doesn’t exist.
This is our “leader” in the Senate. Pathetic.
That’s what I like about McConnell. He’s so courageous.
It’s time for McConnell to either grow a pair or get the hell out of the way!
