House votes to continue NSA surveillance program (217-205)
10News ^ | 24 July 2013

WASHINGTON - The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to continue the collection of hundreds of millions of Americans' phone records in the fight against terrorism.

The chamber rejected a measure to end the program's authority. The vote was 217-205 on Wednesday.

Republican Rep. Justin Amash had challenged the program as an indiscriminate collection of phone records. His measure, if approved by the full House and Senate and signed by the president, would have ended the program's statutory authority.

The White House, national security experts in Congress and the Republican establishment had lobbied hard against Amash's effort.

Libertarian-leaning conservatives and some liberal Democrats had supported Amash's effort.

The vote was unlikely to settle the debate over privacy rights and government efforts to thwart terrorism

So being unconstitutional does not mean anything if its a law they want. But if the voters put a law in that they don’t like then its important.

Uh, we do not have the rule of law, we have dictators.

pathetic every republican who voted no has shown himself to be a rino scum

Unfortunately, there can no longer be any doubt that this is the official position of the GOP. They aren't RINOs, they're Republicans. The GOP is now CINO.

Unfortunately, they've now made it harder to stop the program. It's "bipartisan", after all. And we can't blame Obama for it anymore either. Hang it around their necks.

Any politician that voted for this is either a traitor, or a crook afraid of what the NSA knows. Every single one of them need to be thrown out of Office.

Primary every one of the Big Brother lovers. Our freedom is far more threatened by our government than by terrorists.

I am a little disappointed in the vote but think we don’t have all of the information available to our Reps. This bill was rather a blunt instrument and perhaps that is why it did not prevail. That said, there is much wrong with the program, at least as much as we know about it. Also, funded or not, that does not mean it will pass Constitutional muster.

I don't think we could ever blame Obama for this as it started way before him. Blame whomever the puppet masters are. They got to Bush as well.

We are clearly in some kind of Oligarchical dictatorship now. The Constitution is meaningless to them.

But it's our own fault. If this crud came out in many other countries there would be riots everywhere. People get the government they deserve...

They just said they don’t care about the 4th amendment.

Or spending either apparently. If the Conservatives in the House can't even stop this, then there is no hope of stopping amnesty or ObamaCare. God help us.

If anyone still doubts that the republican party is in bed with and supports the democrat/fascists please speak up.

Cain't wouldn't be prudent.

The terrorists have won.

Our phone calls recorded.
Our emails recorded.
Long lines at airports.
Everybody, even the old and handicapped must remove shoes.
Bloated bureaucracy to fight terrorism costing Billions.

You can’t stop terrorism in spite of all of above.
Example: Boston Marathon bombing.

Most effective way to stop terrorism: Annihilate the leadership in country of origin, such as destruction of Taliban in Afghanistan where the terrorism of 911 was initiated, and supported. But we have no Dubya in office, we have Zero in White House.
