How can we demand respect from others when we show so little of it for ourselves?
Everyone agrees that Trayvon Martin's death was a senseless loss of life. While we'll never know all the facts, it seems likely that George Zimmerman did "profile" Martin when he first saw him. What happened after that will forever be unknown, and, in my mind, the facts were insufficient to convict Zimmerman.
The establishment view of this tragedy is that it is primarily about racial profiling, "stand your ground" laws and the relative value our society places on the lives of young black males. Many black leaders argue that if Martin had killed Zimmerman, the verdict might have been different.
What often gets lost in this narrative is how we in the black community often contribute to our own destruction. The Martin case, tragic as it is, pales in comparison to the epidemic of black-on-black murders, which is the leading cause of death for young black men in this country. In Chicago, the murder rate is so high that it is affecting the city's credit rating. It is broadly accepted that crime in Detroit is a major reason the city is bankrupt.
Where is the outrage, the indignation, the marches for victims of black-on-black crime? The simple fact is that black thugs pose a much greater threat to me and my family than racial profiling ever will.
More important, where is the honest self-examination in the black community of how we tragically devalue our own lives? How can we build a culture of self-respect, honor and dignity when the most visible expression of black culture today is hip-hop and rap music? This malignant new form of black culture plays a dominant role in defining what it means to be an authentic young black male.

Someone posted the other day that in 2007, according to DOJ statistics, there were 14,000 interracial rapes and none of them were white perps and black victims.
I don’t have a Twitter or Facebook account. FR is the only website I have an account. I should spend more time reading rather than just getting angry at news here. :)
Yep. And every one of them is inherently, institutionally racist. To defend those things, while simultaneously decrying racism and segregation is hypocrisy.
If certain folk want to rant against racism all the time, let them do away with all those explicitly 'black' cultural phenomena.

Thank you. I keep repeating that regarding interracial crime (the only kind the media is concerned with), whites are victims of blacks in greater numbers than the reverse. No one is talking about the shame and pity of this, including the media. If anything, the media presents the lying picture of the reverse being true.
Whites are not in such abundance in this world that we ourselves can afford to disregard the genocide (and it is indeed a genocide, according to UN guidelines) occurring to us.
It’s been clearly shown, time after time, that we can’t help the black crime problem, least of all because in spite of all the demands and claims for help, in the end, they don’t allow it. And I agree with them, they’re correct, it’s their problem to fix. Our problem to fix is the predation on whites by blacks. We already gladly deal with our white criminals, and so do the courts. Whites don’t hold marches (discounting fringe groups like Code Pink) for convicted cop killers.
When we held vigils for victims of black criminals such as Christian and Newsome, the people there in their support and that of their families were accused of being KKK, merely for supporting two brutally tortured and murdered white kids, against their black predators.

These stats should be taken with a grain of salt. Definitions of crimes and reporting requirements vary greatly between countries.
The most accurate is usually murder, since a corpse is a pretty concrete thing.
“Robbery” in the example may be defined quite differently in some of the European countries.
“Rape” statistics are notorious for being difficult to compare between jurisdictions. In many states, for instance, “rape-rape” is now being lumped in with a good many “less serious” forms of sexual assault to bring the numbers up.
Similar games are played in reverse all the time to bring the numbers down, as in Mr. Martin’s school police department cooking the books.
While racial profiling and stereotyping can never be defended, the sad truth is hip-hop culture and rap music create, perpetuate and deepen existing stereotypes.
Sadly, one of the people who has devoted his stay in the public eye to doing just this is Obama, who is utterly thrilled when he can have a rap event, hang out with rap "stars," and drop all his "g"s when he speaks.
He thinks this is establishing his black identity, which is not naturally his because he has nothing in common with American blacks. It's all about him, and he's willing to burn down the country and destroy black lives as well as white to make himself feel better.

It’s been a holy article of faith for years that it’s only “racist” when whites recognise themselves as having a common history, common interests, and shared characteristics and culture. When other races do it, it’s merely a sign of their “vibrant diversity”.
How about they start showing some self respect.
A lot of blacks where I live have some innate drive to wear the fanciest clothes, drive HUGE tricked out cars you know they can’t afford ...rims ...what have you.
Here I am, a middle class white woman and we earn a comfortable living ...but I just don’t feel the slightest need to show it. I drive a small compact car and usually dress in just jeans and a t-shirt. Nothing special. In fact, I almost feel uncomfortable drawing attention to myself or flaunting wealth.
They need to stop trying to prove whatever it is they’re trying to prove. It seems THEY feel inferior, and I think the whole ghetto act somehow helps them to feel better about themselves in some way.
They just need to calm down and accept themselves, for once ...stop the crazy gang banger act and the ghetto talk. Dress and talk normally and don’t get into debt over trying to look like royalty. Just BE. And then go to bed early so they can get up early FOR WORK.
Like we do. Every night, without fail, until its time to take your 2-week vacation that comes once a year.
We actually know a black couple just like this ..they call themselves black nerds. They shouldn’t do that. They’re just smart, regular working people ... and they have nothing to prove.
The black community has been divided on the issue or morality long before hi-hop. Jazz came to Chicago as whore-house music, and the dilemma facing youthin the black community is laid out in Gerschwin’s “Porgy and Bess.” Look at the character of “Sportin’ Life.” Young Martin was headed down that same path..

This is the key way that Obama failed the black community. In his position, Obama was supposed to represent the best interests of all citizens regardless of race. And then there are side efforts he chooses to support and unfortunately, it is the race baiters, not their African American victims whom Obama decided to support. He COULD have done so much, he was so admired by the black community when he took office - he could have lead the call for personal responsibility and renewed hope. He has failed everyone in every way that it is possible to fail except the race baiters - he’s got their back.
It’s definitions. The traits you describe have been widely accepted as “authentically black.”
Which means of course that people like the black couple you describe are defined as “inauthentically black,” or even as “acting white.”
I think a good bit of this has been encouraged by white elites who get a frisson of danger out of being around or even just knowing about blacks of this type. While they themselves lead, in many ways, the boring middle-class lifestyle they denigrate to their black pets.
The problem is that the boring old middle-class virtues can be ignored to a considerable extent by actually middle-class people without immediate major danger to their lives. Rich elites can of course get away with a great deal.
But the middle class virtues are absolutely essential for those who want to climb out of poverty into middle class status.
This is one of the keys to the disparity of net worth, I believe. I was listening to a lady cutting hair talk about all the vacations she has taken and will take this year. Places I wouldn't think of trying to afford.
During my department's session, the woman teaching the session from time to time would use a phony southern accent when portraying something a person who doesn't value diversity might say. I grew up in the south, so this did not go unnoticed by me.
Later in the meeting, we went around the room with everyone relating the first time in their own life they were made to feel different. When my turn came I asked if it would be OK to recount the most recent time I had been made to feel bad for being different. (I know you see it coming.)
When I told her it had been in this very meeting every time she mocked the southern accent, her eyes got real big and both her hands went up to cover her mouth. I then said it seemed that diversity was only for some, but not for all.
She was mortified and room was deathly silent. She then tried to apologize but somehow it just didn't ring true.
I've always regretted not putting the icing on the cake by walking out at that point, but the session was required and I didn't want to do it again.
Stop sweeping me in with your generalizations, azzhat. You want to "start the healing?" Stop thinking for me first.
Take the time to go to the link and read the rest. You’ll find out the writer isn’t as liberal as you might think from the opening lines. The piece is a good start.
