How can we demand respect from others when we show so little of it for ourselves?
Everyone agrees that Trayvon Martin's death was a senseless loss of life. While we'll never know all the facts, it seems likely that George Zimmerman did "profile" Martin when he first saw him. What happened after that will forever be unknown, and, in my mind, the facts were insufficient to convict Zimmerman.
The establishment view of this tragedy is that it is primarily about racial profiling, "stand your ground" laws and the relative value our society places on the lives of young black males. Many black leaders argue that if Martin had killed Zimmerman, the verdict might have been different.
What often gets lost in this narrative is how we in the black community often contribute to our own destruction. The Martin case, tragic as it is, pales in comparison to the epidemic of black-on-black murders, which is the leading cause of death for young black men in this country. In Chicago, the murder rate is so high that it is affecting the city's credit rating. It is broadly accepted that crime in Detroit is a major reason the city is bankrupt.
Where is the outrage, the indignation, the marches for victims of black-on-black crime? The simple fact is that black thugs pose a much greater threat to me and my family than racial profiling ever will.
More important, where is the honest self-examination in the black community of how we tragically devalue our own lives? How can we build a culture of self-respect, honor and dignity when the most visible expression of black culture today is hip-hop and rap music? This malignant new form of black culture plays a dominant role in defining what it means to be an authentic young black male.

I can tell you...
They = people of that culture:
They don’t hate your whiteness.
They hate your culture.
They hate your Western Culture.
They hate your Western Christian Culture.
They hate your Western Christian Culture based on God’s Laws.
They hate God’s Laws, and seek to define their own morality.
Your skin color is simply a 3 times removed proxy.
Definition: Phenomenon created by the Federal Government by providing funds to "baby mamas". The more babies, the more funds. Then the "baby father" can live with several "baby mamas" free of charge and responsibility in order to pursue more candidates to become "baby mamas.
First three sentences; first three lies. There's really no need to continue further with this trash.
It’s a story of lost humanity, and being lost humanity has no direct dependence upon one’s skin color. No color of people is any “loster” than another; however under certain circumstances sin can involve an obsession upon color (as it can an obsession upon any circumstance of the physical world). I hate even to use the word “denigrate” because some people are so sensitive to that, but that’s what some people do to themselves in the name of color solidarity. Argue with Mr. Bell’s speculations upon the GZ case all you want (I personally would), but he summed it up extremely well at the end of his article (at the source) “If you do not respect yourself, nobody else will either.”
Read it through to the end then say that again... if you haven’t realized there’s more. This proclivity to toss things away with superficial looks without further consideration is usually a “LIBERAL” fault... not a “CONSERVATIVE” one. Word to the wise.
GZ profiled Sweet Little Trayvon as a young (possibly black) thug on drugs, loitering, and casing apartments, a person who matched the description of almost all the burglars seen at the scene of previous crimes in the neighborhood. I don't see any errors in his profile or any problems with making accurate observations. As for Sweet Little Trayvon's death, the way he was raised was a senseless loss; the actual shooting was a good thing for society and essential for GZ.

"No race can prosper till it learns that there is as much dignity in tilling a field as in writing a poem." - Booker T. Washington
In Booker T's day, there was a huge push in negro culture to elevate higher education to the level of an idol, rejecting practical work and manual labor as oppressive leftovers from slave days. While education is now often rejected as "acting white", practical work is also rejected, by the same people, as "acting white". The great black heroes of the left are all "talkers", not "producers". What have Barack 0bama, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, etc actually made?
Meanwhile, Booker T. Washington (who called them out on it), George Washington Carver (who actually invented stuff), etc. are consigned (in the minds of the left) to the dustbin of history. They're not useful. Their example doesn't keep blacks uneducated, unskilled, and dependent on Big DemocRAT Massa.
We know that TM had four minutes before his final confrontational act in which he didn't run/walk/crawl back to the condo where he was staying after getting suspended.
We know he didn't call the police (or his father or Eric Holder, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton...) for help, (or for fatherly, legal, or spiritual advice) in those four minutes.
We do know that GZ abandoned his surveilling of TM after losing sight and headed back to his vehicle.
We don't know why TM, a minor, didn't just go "home".
We do, and the author does: This malignant new ["new"?! Denial is not a river...] form of black culture plays a dominant role in defining what it means to be an authentic young black male.
Peter Bell is indeed African-American. He is also a conservative and fellow at the center for the American Experiment, which is a conservative think tank in Minneapolis. He is frequently the target of leftists, and it would appear from some of the comments in this thread, of some conservatives too.
Which doesn't include the concept of personal responsibility, in fact, it's now widely considered to be racist to use the term "personal responsibility" to or in regards to blacks.
Given all that you said, how can diversity work?
Doesn't diversity mean different? Is everything different automatically good?
Certainly wouldn’t want to admit violent black on white crime as being an issue and has to dilute his opinion with.....

Hip-hop culture, with all its trappings, is embraced and celebrated by many black entertainers and athletes, who are the only role models many young black men have.
What other culture in the history of the world has routinely referred to its women as hoes, while pimps and hustlers are celebrated and education is devalued? How can we in the African-American community ever demand respect from others when we show so little of it for ourselves?

Established via the agenda-driven MSM who are trying to revise the facts to fit their narrative.
The Florida court did not allow any of Martin's school discipline, Facebook posts and twitters entered into evidence, so the MSM is treating it as if they never existed.
And we're now supposed to converse on this subject without talking about Martin's established thug past.

See my comment #27.
Diversity doesn’t work; there has been a study proving it.
People don’t trust each other as much in a “diverse” environment, because not everyone is running under the same rules.
Homogeneous base rules of behavior are the foundation of “social capital”, where people trust each other and build up a society.
This isn’t going to happen until the Lord comes again.
“...did “profile” Martin ...”
over-used word
Not important, but the site is Twitter and you post Tweets not twitters.(In case you’re talking to youngsters)
Why is the best thinking done in tanks? Can I get one of these thinking tanks for home and office use? Sometimes things get hectic and I can't think; maybe a tank would help.
.
Exactly.
I know of a school where virtually every parent is on welfare and absolutely every child is on free lunch.
Most of the kids have a transient male in the household from time to time. The dude just changes every 6 months or so.
