Pet wolf shot by police during foot chase

RIVERSIDE —

A wolf was shot by a police officer during a pursuit through backyards early this morning.

A Riverside police officer was running information on two juveniles he had stopped when one of the teens, who had an outstanding warrant, fled from the scene on foot, said police.

Law enforcement officials from Huber Heights, MetroParks and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base were called in as back up to help locate the individual.

During the pursuit, a Riverside officer hopped a fence into the back yard of a home on Norman Boulevard where he saw the teen enter. When the officer looked up he was face-to-face with a wolf, said police.

The officer said he had no choice but to shoot after the animal lunged at him. The wolf was injured but did not sustain any fatal wounds, according to reports.

The juvenile-on-the-run, a 14-year-old male, was found hiding under a van in the back of the property. He was taken in to custody and was transported to the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center, said police.

The owners of the wolf were going to take their pet to be evaluated by a veterinarian, according to reports.

Nice dodge.

You're saying that you're okay with whatever damage is done, so long as the perp is chased and maybe caught. Got it.

I'd say that you've lost the mission, but the truth is, we've lost the country and you're right at home here in this new post-constitutional Amerika.

By your reasoning they are supposed to wait until you invite them in?

I already told you dimwit, I have NO use for them, none, and I'm not kidding. Any home invader stupid enough to pick my house will have 300 lbs of dog hanging off of them, they won't stand a chance. I sleep like a baby at night, with no worries about invaders or burglars. The police today are not the kind of people I care to associate with at all. It's like they employ NO mental health screening at all for recruits.

Oh get off it.

If they do they are jackasses. Dangerous jackasses.

If I feel the need I have a German Shepherd backed up by my firearm. Never mind I’m not afraid to use anything that might be handy. But I’m not an ass who goes off half-cocked, as they say. Neither my dog.

Just because I won’t threaten everyone who dares step on my property doesn’t make ME a coward.

Hah! It WAS hot pursuit, and it has everything to do with property rights of private citizens versus the rights of LEO’s to violate those property rights. It is clear.

It was an outstanding burglary warrant.

Go back and read the story.

Hot pursuit is when you are chasing the guy with him in sight.

Hot pursuit is when you see him go in the house.

In the story you are talking about, there was no pursuit. The cops wanted to set up an observation point, spying position, whatever you want to call it but it was not in pursuit of a guy that had just committed a crime.

You are not brave. You are stupid.

Smart people do not pick fights they are destined to lose, they pick fights in which they have a chance.

Would you shoot at a modern tank with your .45?

Would you stand in the middle of the rail road track and dare the train not to stop?

Shooting at a cop who is chasing a BG is the same thing.

There are other ways to combat rogue cops.

Smart people pick their battles and the ground they are fought on.

Audie Murphy never would have done what he did if the only weapon he had was his issued rifle, and if he had he would never have gone down in history as the most accomplished fighter in the history of WWII. Instead he would have gone down as the most stupid.

All you are going to do is issue an invitation to the SWAT team.

And get swatted.

I left out the point that it could not have been hot pursuit as that term is used, because the BG was not in the house the cops wanted to take over.

He was in the house next door and the cops knew it. They wanted the house they invaded for the sole purpose of observation.

That is not hot pursuit.

In the case by the OP, it was hot pursuit. Yes, in my other “observation” story, it was not hot pursuit. Hot pursuit has nothing to do with “going into a house”, but onto or into property. In the case by OP, the criminal was pursued into the backyard. The LEO was pursuing the perp and saw the perp go into the backyard, and hide. Yes, according to law, the LEO had the right to enter the backyard to pursue the perp. The protection of the public outweighs the privacy rights of property owners, with a few exceptions. But darnit, stop the stupid arbitrary shooting of dogs. One can tell within a few seconds whether the dog will be hostile or not. If the LEO cannot determine this, put him on desk duty. That’s BS.

My story involved LEO who did not care if the owner protested or not—they took over the private property. The similarity is the LEO entered onto private property in both cases without any consideration for the property owner.

The I-Team analyzed six officer-involved dog shootings that took place in the Tri-State during the last 18 months.

The thing that bothered me about this story is that “the wolf lunged at him”.

Having been an owner of a wolf/huskie mix, I doubt that. They just really aren’t guard dogs and seldom even bark. That’s not to say that they aren’t prolific hunters..just not of humans.

The dog may have just stood up to see what was going on..they do look very impressive and scary.

I’m divided on this. The police were chasing someone that may have been a mass murderer for all I know (later proved differently) that had invaded my property. My poor, old goofy, scary looking wolf/mix stands up to see if what ever has jumped over the fence is a possum or raccoon. Police scared...dog scared..bad combination. They would darn sure be paying my vet bills. AND I would probably have an electric wire installed at the top of the fence. To keep out uninvited “guests.

Of course, I kept mine inside because people were scared of him. I miss him..he was a great wolf/dog.

Hmmm...even though my old guy is long gone, I think I’ll put a heavy duty electric wire on the top of my fence.

I ran cattle at one time. A wire like that will throw ANYBODY on their rear ends. Not illegal in my area at all.

My posts to you are no different than showing a chicken a card trick. They just don’t get it.

Ironically you started out by insulting every poster on this thread that isn’t a boot licker but when called on it you get all upset. Typical, can dish can’t take.

Gotcha.

Odd, that the wolf does not seem to have gone after the teen, also an intruder, unless he decided the second intruder was more of a Threat to The Boss than the first.
