They have law firms that specialize in getting people on disability. It’s an industry.

Yes. Yes. and Yes.

It’s no coincidence that the dramatic upward tick in the number of recipients corresponds with the ending of the ridiculously extended unemployment period back when Demonrats were buying votes with unemployment benefits.

Disability is a huge scam and it’s sad that those who really need and and have earned it often don’t get it as quickly as they should because the system is so bogged down with fraud.

Is Social Security disability program ‘backdoor welfare’?

You bet your ass it is as is SS the way it’s run.

What you get out of SS should be exactly what you paid in and what your employer(s) pay... that’s 100% return on investment by the way and that’s all you get. You run out you’re on your own.

You should be given two options: 1): One big ass check for everything tax free or 2): Pick how many years you want YOUR money sent back to you. You die before that happens it should be given to your spouse (not significant other) or a family member.

I live in Japan. Currently an independent contractor editing scientific papers and technical manuals. OK, things are not great, but I’m happily married, my wife has a good job, we get by, even add a bit to the savings now and then.

Last week I got an email from a company that claims to have an association with the VA, how they found me I have no idea, but basically they told me that because I was medically discharged from the Navy that I was pretty much guaranteed a disability payment from Social Security, and offered to help me put in a claim. The kicker was the line that said Social Security payments can be made, even for overseas residents, and that I would not have to return to the US to make a claim.

I deleted the email and emptied my trash before I could get tempted... but sometimes... especially when I think about all the other parasites out there, the utter hopelessness of changing things in my lifetime...

Why shouldn’t I get some, too?

It’s welfare that never ends - and there’s no pesky social workers.

It certainly pays for a lot of lawyers to be advertizing on TV for more takers these days.

I cannot believe the number of disability folks I see at my work. One 19 yr old fella repeatedly denied he had any medical problems. When I followed up w/ the question “Why are you on Medicare?” he was stunned. Then he said he had a gunshot wound to the leg when he was 13 yrs old. He no longer had a medical problem — he even knew it & repeatedly denied any medical problems. But now he is on permanent medical disability.

Unfortunately, I think the Social Security judges who evaluate people’s claims have a list of acceptable diseases/donditions which qualify the qualify for disability. The easy way is for the judges to stamp their approval for disability — that way they get better approval ratings. Perhaps this is typical govt employee? Tired & wants to get home from work?

That’s basically what it has become.

I know of young, able bodied people still in their 30’s who are on disablity because they are just overweight. They aren’t disabled - they are just food hogs.

And others under 40 years old and on disability because they drink too much or smoke too much dope to keep a job.

It’s a disgusting turn of events and one of the reasons we hear all the whining about Social security going broke.

“Under the social security disability program, people are getting money they are entitled to that has been taken out of their paychecks over the years,” he said. “It’s disingenuous to call it a hand-out.”

Call it a scam if you want but it is an insurance program just like any other privately held policy. The problem lies in the unusual definition of 'disability' as pointed out in the article that includes non medical issues.

SSDI (disability) is not the same as SSI and are often confused.

Consider if you were involved in an automobile accident and turned in an insurance claim to your insurer, should you feel guilty??? I don't think you would, after all that is what you paid for.

If you knew how many children labeled “special education” (learning disabled, behavior disordered, etc.) receive disability you would feint.

" Social Security disability has been turned into “a back-door welfare program

ALL Taxpayer handout-for-Votes Programs are simply wealth-redistribution for the benefit of Re-Election, and let the taxpayers be the deep pockets.

Banks, Businesses, Minorities, Baby-Killing support, etc. are ALL just money-laundering to get re-Elected, and when the taxpayers are gone, the Civil War will weed out the non-productive.

I wish congress understood the adverse effects that disability often has on individuals & their families. Most people, including people born with handicaps, have things they can do in society. Consider Helen Keller — deaf & blind — oh, my, what a woman!

But the worst is when the disabled person’s children are affected. “Little Sean needs a note for school.”

“Oh, well, no he isn’t sick — we overslept. And can you excuse him for the last week?”

In a day and age when medical advances mean people are living longer and healthier lives than ever before, shouldn’t there be fewer disabled workers?

These so-called disabled people call it the "crazy check". There is nothing wrong with them. It can't be proved one way or the other.
