If there is one hopeful note amid all the anguish and recrimination from the acquittal of George Zimmerman, it’s that growing numbers of white people have come to appreciate whiteness for what it is: an unearned set of privileges. And as a result of that dawning awareness, it’s become possible to imagine a day when that structure of privilege is dismantled — by white people.
Recall that immediately after the killing of Trayvon Martin, people of every race took to the Internet to declare “I am Trayvon Martin.” They wore hoodies. They proclaimed solidarity. That was a well-meaning and earnest attempt to express empathy, but it also obscured the core issue, which is that Martin died not because he was wearing a hoodie but because he was wearing a hoodie while black. Blackness was the fatal variable.
And so now, postverdict, a more realistic meme has taken root. On Tumblr and Facebook and elsewhere there is a new viral phenomenon: “We are not Trayvon Martin” (emphasis mine). Huge numbers of white Americans are posting testimonials and images to declare that it is precisely because they are not black that they have never had to confront the awful choices Martin faced when Zimmerman began to pursue him.
This isn’t about empathy or the posture of equivalency that empathy can tempt us to assume. It’s about owning up to the unequal privilege of being nonblack and saying, in essence, “I am George Zimmerman.” And because I am George Zimmerman, I get to have my fears trump reality. I get get-out-of-jail-free cards. I get a presumption of innocent victimhood, no matter what my own acts or attitudes....

Being forced by (ahem) *laws* to accept someone of questionable character because of the color of their skin isn't a 'privilege', it's a burden.

You’d probably be in some trouble for “brandishing” even if you felt your life was being threatened.
Really, if the lefties want to reduce the number of self-defense shootings, they should change the law so that someone cannot be charged with a crime for deterring an attack by letting them know you WILL shoot them if they press their attack.
The same idiots that decry “white privelege” are also the same idiots that will attack their fellow blacks for “acting white” when they study in school, or find some other success. The call something a privelege and then demonize the success that comes with the privelege. Reminds me of the story of a bucket of crabs....

If these people are still unhappy after everything they have been given over and above other Americans, then let them walk off that liberal plantation and into the real world-there isn’t any “privilege” for color or ethnicity other than what you make for yourself ...

But at least this serves a useful purpose; letting the imbeciles reveal themselves in such a public fashion makes them much easier to identify.
“White Privilege” means never getting to use your skin color as an excuse for laziness, sloth and failure.
So please, minorities, clean up your own houses and STFU.

Or maybe the privilege was earned... by Einstein, Edison, Faulkner, Eudora Welty, Yeats, Keats, Shakespeare, Jobs, Buzz Aldrin, Sally Ride, Churchill, Eisenhower, Balanchine, Beethoven, The Beatles, Babe Ruth — and by my father who spent three and a half years in a Japanese prison camp.
Does anyone actually subscribe to or read Time Magazine (more like a thin pamplet) anymore? I wouldn’t even bother linking to it or going to its site. I wouldn’t want to give their site even a single “hit” and I’d advise others to leave it alone also. Let it die the death it so richly deserves.
I grew up in the deep South and, though my family wasn't at all racist (my mom was actually a head start teacher), the racists I knew in my community didn't actually hate Black people...they just didn't believe in integration. They certainly discriminated but they didn't hate.
What we have learned from Obama and Jeremiah Wright is that Black churches (of the Liberation Theology denomination) have indoctrinated many Blacks with a seething, white-hot hatred for Whites. It's a new kind of racism based on deep seated anger at anyone with White skin.
I don't know if or how such a thing can be overcome. It's like a disease.

A strong application of state sovereignty and the 9th and 10th amendment would make use of the 2nd less likely.
