House Republicans plan to ratchet up scrutiny of the IRS during a hearing Thursday morning where agency workers are expected to discuss the involvement of high-level officials in slowing down applications from Tea Party groups.
For the first time, the House oversight committee has invited two key agency officials to testify. Republican leaders of the committee claimed Wednesday that one of them recently revealed that the IRS chief counsel's office -- led by a political appointee -- played a role, along with embattled IRS official Lois Lerner, in scrutinizing conservative groups.
Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the committee, told Fox News that agency officials in Cincinnati were taking their orders from Washington, and that the investigation needs to look next at both Lerner and the counsel's office.
"As a part of this ongoing investigation, the committees have learned that the IRS Chief Counsel's office in Washington, D.C. has been closely involved in some of the applications," Issa and other Republicans wrote in a letter to IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel.

issa waste of time.
we need a special prosecutor. or a special watergate style house committee with it’s own counsel.
We all know that the Republicans will bend over and take their medicine.
They will do nothing except stand up and beat their chests fora couple of seconds, then assume the position.
Its happened before.
It will happen again.
Release the Barrett Report!!!
The Barrett Report was the result of a special prosecutor investigation of IRS abuses during the Clinton administration. Democrats AND Republicans succeeded in having it sealed from public scrutiny. ANY member of Congress can effectively release it by simply having it read into the Congressional Record. To date no Democrat (no surprise) nor ANY Republican has stepped forward to have it read into the record. Why?
By now, it is almost forgotten, even by most Freepers.
Hey, Issa, release the Barrett Report.
For his part, Mr. Hull backed up what he'd told House investigators. He described what was, essentially, a big, lengthy runaround in the Washington office in which no one was clear as to their reasons but everything was delayed. The multitiered scrutiny of the targeted groups was, he said, "unusual."

it certainly seems like the evidence to prosecute is there
ALL: Good summation of hearing by Peggy Noonan. [Was she the only journalist who watched the hearings?].
Noonan: A Bombshell in the IRS Scandal
Still, what landed was a bombshell. And Democrats know it. Which is why they are so desperate to make the investigation go away. They know, as Republicans do, that the chief counsel of the IRS is one of only two Obama political appointees in the entire agency....
Mr. Hull told House investigators that at some point in the winter of 2010-11, Ms. Lerner's senior adviser, whose name is withheld in the publicly released partial interview transcript, told him the applications would require further review:
Q: "Did [the senior adviser to Ms. Lerner] indicate to you whether she agreed with your recommendations?"
A: "She did not say whether she agreed or not. She said it should go to chief counsel."
Q: "The IRS chief counsel?"
A: "The IRS chief counsel."
Thanks for the ping! Noonan’s article seems to be the only article floating around on the Internet this morning about the IRS lawlessness! Time for the new media to get back to IRS and Benghazi and stop playing into Obama’s hands with the Zimmerman crap IMHO.
Thank you for that....I would have missed it. Good summation by Peggy. Is Wilkin’s expected to testify?
Thanks for the ping!
I also thought the line of questioning by Meehan was very interesting.

Don't rock the boat! They've got yacht lot fees just like JOhn KErry. He's a hero, a VC hero. He shot more videos than Viet Com.
The only real weapon the House has is impeachment, and that is useless unless they go after a political appointee.
Only the Senate can impeach.
You'll know where to find me on Thursday!
What will Lerner do? Its been quite the cliff hanger!
How about a little justice for the Tea Party, etc.....
The House impeaches. Then the Senate holds a trial. If two thirds of the Senators vote to convict, then the person can be removed from office.
Yes, correct, let me know how the House referring articles of impeachment to the Spinate goes.
It would serve no purpose but to stir up the obastard base even further. That’s racist you know?
It went to the oval office.
I am talking about impeaching the lower-lying fruit, I meant his servants, such as the counsel for the IRS.
