House Republicans plan to ratchet up scrutiny of the IRS during a hearing Thursday morning where agency workers are expected to discuss the involvement of high-level officials in slowing down applications from Tea Party groups.
For the first time, the House oversight committee has invited two key agency officials to testify. Republican leaders of the committee claimed Wednesday that one of them recently revealed that the IRS chief counsel's office -- led by a political appointee -- played a role, along with embattled IRS official Lois Lerner, in scrutinizing conservative groups.
Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the committee, told Fox News that agency officials in Cincinnati were taking their orders from Washington, and that the investigation needs to look next at both Lerner and the counsel's office.
"As a part of this ongoing investigation, the committees have learned that the IRS Chief Counsel's office in Washington, D.C. has been closely involved in some of the applications," Issa and other Republicans wrote in a letter to IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel.

Worth repeating!
Just tuning in...IG, George ssems feisty!
Connolly is being a jerk....trying to intimate that George only focused on Tea Party and ignored what was being done to Progressive exempt groups.
Jordan - asks for numbers - there are two terms associated with progressive groups.
Yep...caught that too! He gave the date of email but I did not catch it.
What you say is what I heard too..He heard a rumour of a smoking gun email.
So someone knows and is talking. This has to make Obama more than a little nervous.
BS testimony on Lerner. She was not trying to fix anything other than hiding her tracks!
Yes, the 'Rats are working to turn a witness sympathetic to them into a hostile witness.
Is he covering for her?
Kurtz testifies - Lois Lerner was trying to “fix” the problem when she renamed these groups “advocacy” vs. Tea Party groups. Right, right, right.
Who is this Kurtz guy?
Only a matter of time before someone had to be sacrificed.
And later one of the other witnesses mentioned inadvertently that it was described as “political” advocacy.
The line of questioning about the person with no experience being put in charge over and above Mr. Hull was interesting.
Billions and billions of dollars misspent.
Mr. George never seen anything like this in his career. Misuse of funds, demeaning and attacking of career workers under him.
Benghazi mention and again the liar Jay Carney.
What about the millions and millions send to one address in GA. I there there were 24,000 checks sent there.
“Misuse of funds,”
George said, “billions and billions of dollars”
Mr George can’t give info under penalty? Did he have to sign a nondisclosure form like the survivors of Benghazi?

No one from Cheif Counsel has been interviewed by the IG office. More stunning testimony IMHO.
