Todd Harris, the usually gregarious consultant to Sen. Marco Rubio, uncharacteristically resisted eight days of calls and emails seeking his thoughts for this column. When he finally did reply, the answer was: to be honest, another story about Marco and immigration is not high on Christmas list!!
No wonder. The very issue Rubio (and Harris) thought would be a game-changing, legacy-builder looks like a big liability for the Florida senator, at least right now. In the process, the self-confident presidential hopeful suddenly looks wobbly, even a little weak, as he searches for whats next.
Rubio spent six months working over Senate Republicans only to get stiffed by 70 percent of them. He has gone underground on the issue ever since, ducking reporters on Capitol Hill.
Some top conservatives are questioning Rubios judgment on immigration, arguing that he was played by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and other Democrats in the Senates Gang of Eight immigration working group.
Rubio refused to be interviewed for this column. But POLITICOs Senate specialist, Manu Raju, cornered him in the Capitol on Wednesday to get his take.
In background conversations, Rubio allies spin elaborate theories about how he might be threading the perfect political needle, getting credit for winning Senate passage without owning the responsibility for the complexities of implementation and certain rage from some parts of the right if it actually became law.
The adviser added that while the Senate bill wasnt what we would have produced if wed written our own bill, it is a lot better than it would have been without Sen. Rubios involvement. Democrats made big concessions.

Bye Bye Marco...
The elites like Rubio are so insulated they think that they know what is best for the peasants and the peasants will quiver with joy at anything they do.
Hopefully he fell in quicksand.
rubio refused to understand that dems are NOT our friends. They do not care about the US. They only care about power and their next election. Rubio thought he could make the dems compromise with him....He found out just how treacherous they are and could not find the nerve to shout from the roof tops and pull the plug on his ‘immigration’ bill.
That’s what you get for believing the bs
He’s dead to me!
Before this disaster, I said this was a big moment that would either make or break Rubio’s career. If he found a way to find an acceptable middle ground on the issue and champion it through with a good amount of base support, he would have proved his skill as a legislator and political strategist.
If he signed on to the left-wing vision, he’d be all but finished. Personally, I would be ok with some sort of immigration bill to get illegals to a working status. That’s more moderate than some here, but it makes sense to me to deal with a real problem. Combine that with border security and employer enforcement, and I would have been fine.
This bill was a turd sandwich, and Rubio chose to sign on and ruin his reputation with the very people that got him there. He is done, in my eyes. I likely won’t waste another vote on him in the future because he lied to me repeatedly.
He has gone underground on the issue ever since, ducking reporters on Capitol Hill. What? No more two-faced spanish radio interviews?
Of course he was played, He thought the Rats would deal openly with him on immigration when the whole time they were working to get him to agree with them while planning of amnesty with no enforcement. All he had to do was to look at how eager the Rats were to get it passed to know he was a sucker.
ha....ha....ha...
All the conservative advocacy and success in the world cannot compensate for Amnesty .With amnesty all else is for nought. Amnesty gives us the permanent totalitarian one party state without even having to corner the touch screen voting machines. With Amnesty the Democrats can have undoctored elections.
Weak toast, but still toast.
Just received my first(for this year) ‘please send me money’ from Rubio today......couldn’t get it into the garbage fast enough.
Hey Marco-are you going to now proclaim yourself Independant now, later or go immediately go full bore Democrat?
One and done, Rubio. Count on it.
A$$hole. Useless self-serving RINO trashy liar voting against the people who electected him, he can now XXX XXXX and XXX.
Balance redacted.

Marco Rubio is NOT a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.
Marco's status is the same as that of Barry Soetoro, aka Barack Hussein Obama, who is NOT a Natural Born Citizen.
Getting snookered by Chuck Schumer and teaming up with John McCain is no way to show Americans that you are smart enough to be President, let alone be a President who can turn this country around and save it. I stuck up for Rubio when he was ridiculed for the water drinking incident, but now I see him as someone who can’t take a drink of water without making an ass of himself. He needs to forget running for President.
Whoa, I hope Sara is a good girl the vast majority of the time.....
Marco castro stalin Rubio, is toast.
