The Moral Decline of America?

The Moral Decline of America!

Sixty Five years ago when I was born, the United States was airlifting supplies to West Berlin behind the Iron Curtain. We were fighting Communist totalitarian governments around the world. It was 1948.

In America, Black Americans were subjected to Jim Crow laws in the Southern States all controlled by 92% Democrat politicians. They held all important offices from Governor, the Legislature, and the Judicial System, to county, city, town and local police. It was one Party rule. There was no political dissent in these Southern States. The KKK was strong and supported by the Democrat politicians. Blacks in these Southern States were denied their Civil Rights. They were controlled by the Democrat politicians.

In 1948, the percentage of children being raised by one parent was at it’s lowest level in our nation’s history. Blacks in 1948 had the highest rate of intact families in the United States. Black children were being raised by their natural parents at a 94% rate, the highest rate for any demographic group in America.

Today, our country has declined to 40.8% of all children being born out of wedlock. Black children today are being raised by a single mom, a grandmother, or other family member at a 67.8% rate. Black male children that don’t have their natural father raising them is at 73%. Yet, at the same time the birthrate for black women and white women is at it’s lowest level ever. This is because the abortion rate has exploded. This is a national Tragedy and a Social Moral Crises.

So, how did we get to this point in 2013? What happen in America to cause this to be? What caused the moral decline in our society? In 1948, American families that attended church was at it’s highest rate in American history. Divorce was at it’s lowest rate. Abortion was at it’s lowest rate. Marriage was between one man and one woman. Drug use both legal drugs and illegal drugs was at it’s lowest level. In 1948, Americans enjoyed high employment rates and economic mobility. They could find a better paying job, got more pay raises and promotions because of higher productivity. Business was able to operate free of unnecessary government rules, regulations, laws, and taxes. The economy was strong.

Only those old enough to have lived during this transformative time in our nation’s history can answer the 64 thousand dollar question. Which political party has supported and promoted these changes in the moral make-up of our nation?

Thoughtful post, 2DV.

I was born in ‘43, so have 4 years or so on you. The root cause, as I see it, was our peer group in the 60’s.

We should have fought back then, but we had no idea that they would ever change tactics, and decide to infiltrate all of our cherished institutions.

They did, so now we suffer the whirlwind of destruction. Makes me sad. We never dreamed that these destructors of social cohesion would succeed so spectacularly.

They have, but considering that this has happened so many times before in history, we will eventually recover. We may have to go into hiding to preserve the great ideas, as the monks did in ancient Ireland.

Maybe it is time to do that, to withdraw into isolated private regions, and preserve the great books, ideas, and preserve time-tested rules of co-operative moral social behavior.

Just pondering...

Its a complex question. But the answer can be summed up with three little words.

Lyndon Baines Johnson.

He - in spite of B. Hussein doing his best to replace him - remains the country’s worst president ever. He pushed through his Great Society programs which have decimated the black family and has replaced the Great American dream with EBT cards and moral, social and economic failures for all.

Closer to a moral free-fall nearing rock bottom.

“In 1948, Americans enjoyed high employment rates and economic mobility. They could find a better paying job, got more pay raises and promotions because of higher productivity. Business was able to operate free of unnecessary government rules, regulations, laws, and taxes. The economy was strong.”

How could that be, providing we had very strict immigration laws, and very little immigration, legal or illegal?

He should have added that a high percentage of black people owned their own homes, and that blacks were slowly, but surely moving up in the world.

A number of things happened. A migration of blacks from rural America to the Cities is one, and the primary cause of that was increased welfare amounts paid out in cities.

TV and mass communication is another thing that happened, and the opportunity for brainwashing wasn’t missed by the growing left.

Soviet styled education took over public education.

The cultural revolution instigated by communist happened.

Civil rights were hijacked by the left, and institutionalized poverty, more welfarism and perpetual inequality happened.

Vietnam happened, followed by the Great Society.

Richard Nixon and the explosion of federal institutions happened.

The drug war happened.

Multiculturalism replaced the supremacy of the American culture.

Race-baiting became a multimillion and then billion dollar industry.

Our universities were taken over by the left.

The media was taken over by the left.

Inflation destroyed single worker families.

Government continued to grow and encroach upon the rights of individuals and families.

More mass media and brainwashing...

Obama happened.

If you were born in 1943, you and your peer group weren’t running much of anything in the 1960s, you were still in your 20s, hardly the age for the Supreme court, Presidency, Senate, Congress, state government, city govt., institutional leadership, Vietnam fighting generals, Hollywood, publishing, newspapers, Universities, or anything else, and all of that was already corrupt and creating this mess by the 1950s and 1960s.

A link to the book all of us should read, and consider. It might be time for us to think of doing something similar!

I’m a ‘46er so I’m right in there with you. Unfortunately, a lot of us who would have fought back at that time were off fighting LBJ’s splendid little war instead and weren’t at home.

The hippie culture was a complete disaster except for some pretty good music.

Your post #3 explains the basis for this situation we find ourselves in.

Yes, LBJ was the one who set this in motion. I hope he is rotting—and burning—in Hell.

No, the Great Migration of Blacks from the rural South to the industrial, urban North began with the boll weevil infestation of 1913, accelerated with the U.S. entry into WWI - the main catalyst for the Harlem Renaissance - and continued through the 1930s. They migrated north to work - and they did work, and open businesses.

Not sure how to respond to you. Perhaps I didn’t make myself clear - I watched my peers trash traditional sexual morality, call police “pigs”, form radical groups (Bill Ayers ring a bell?).

Never did I dream these “themes” would destroy our institutions, but they have succeeded, while we were raising families, going to church, working hard on the job, and dealing with the draft.

Not all of us young women listened to the nonsense of Betty Friedan, and her ilk, burned our bras, and assumed our husbands would be chauvinists.

But, now we find ourselves the “enemy” of the “establishment” in the government and the press.

I agree with you that corruption has always been there, but once there was that archaic concept called shame, now that no longer exists.

I feel so sad for my grandchildren.

I’m not done watching, but so far one of the most comprehensive compilation of how the hell we got to this point I’ve ever seen or read.

"Sixty Five years ago when I was born, the United States was airlifting supplies to West Berlin behind the Iron Curtain."

I'm surprised that the glaring error there wasn't mentioned in previous comments. Agreed on moral decline, though.

"Which political party has supported and promoted these changes in the moral make-up of our nation?"

Both political parties, of course, as their boss constituents ordered them to. The moral decline was enabled by rejections of honesty, and the economic decline follows the moral decline. bipartisan crooks, steeped in debt/revenues, don't do productive work. They regulate and make policies against it.

My point was that the left won the war against America during the period of 1935, to 1980.

Start listing the actual legislation and organizations etc. that brought us down, and then track it back to it’s origins and date.

You can also try to imagine how far back to the right America would have moved if that 1965 immigration Act had not brought in 10s of millions of Democrat voters.

Having one of those totally irritating senior moments right now...

There was an author I really enjoyed (female), who wrote about this stuff way back when. I think she was from Western NY, wrote about the oil well era in Northern Pennsylvania, and early collusions among the powers that be in that time.

Help me remember her name, and the name of her books, read so many years ago..

Perhaps, but what I said is also correct. Poor families in the South were making around $10 to $12 dollars a month on welfare in southern states. By moving to urban areas like New York they could get $35 per month, and after rent and groceries they could have $5 or more dollars left over. It was the reason a lot of poor blacks moved into northern cities. Rent freeze policies were also initiated, and areas began to run down.

By the time WWII was over, and the experiment in public housing began, along with urban renewal, a lot of black families were displaced as cities like Chicago were looking for ways to clean up run down areas. Housing programs provided the money and justification to level poor neighborhoods. Some of those areas remained vacant while nothing was provided for displaced black families. They lived wherever they could.

Returning veterans were the first recipients of public housing, and they used it long enough to move up and out. By then the problems that had been created by displacing black families could no longer be ignored, and they finally made it into public housing. Unlike returning veterans, they had little opportunity for upward mobility. You know the rest of that story. Businesses and factories moved out, and America is still dealing with the problems caused by poorly thought out public housing policies.

Housing projects were isolated from jobs, and they became centers of black markets, trading in prostitution, drugs, stolen goods, whatever could bring in money.
