A man leading a demonstration against the recent acquittal of George Zimmerman in a murder trial that mesmerized the United States, was caught on camera wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with anti-Semitic language, Breitbart.com reports.
Shots of the protester and his T-shirt, were broadcast on KTLA-5 Los Angeles, and featured by the Los Angeles Times — neither of which spotted the offensive language. The shirt reads: “YOU ASHKENAZI CRAFTED DEVIL,” an apparent reference to Zimmerman, who is not Jewish as his name might suggest.
The term Ashkenazi refers to Jews of Eastern European origin, rather than Sephardic Jews who lived in Arab and Latin countries. While both groups trace their lineage back to Spain, Ashkenazi Jews primarily went north, into Europe after being expelled from the country in 1492, while Sephardic Jews headed south to the Magreb, North Africa and Asia or to European trading capitals, London and Amsterdam, where they maintained separate traditions.
There was a story in newspaper about 7-10 years ago about Catholic priest from NM that did genetic blood test and found out that his bloodline have Jewish origin from Spain. Many residents in NM have the same bloodline.

This tale seems to have come from the mysterious founder of the Nation, Wallace Fard and was transmitted to Elijah Muhammad.
This is one of the tamer things they believe.

As to antisemitism, less interesting, and you're right, there's a large reflexive component.
Do a search for “The Times of Israel” on 17 July 2013 ran a very good article on this so-called Jewishness of GZ. Everyone should read it and save it.
I found out more about Trayvon’s mother than I ever knew - for instance, she kicked out her three-year-old son and sent hi to live with this father who had a second wife(?). His father was with her for about 11 years when he walked out on her because he had found another girlfriend. Trayvon had bonded with his “step-mother” and this was traumatic for him. There was more about the family situation and why Trayvon was apparently living with his father’s ‘fiance’ at the time of his death.
Then the ethnicity of Robert Zimmerman, Sr. was alluded to indirectly. Robert is a Catholic who married a Peruvian woman who had a black grandfather. Robert Z. was in the US Army in Vietnam. So there is apparently no tie to being Jewish at all. I assume that Robert is at least part “German” from his father’s side [because of his German surname].

All over the Spanish and Portuguese territories in the Americas and in Europe are Jews who were forced to recant. Many don’t know they are Jewish. Ferdinand and Isabella, The Catholic Kings made it very hard on Jews everywhere.
Yes, thank you. That’s the Montefiore Cemetary, established by the Jewish community of Las Vegas in the mid/late 19th century. One of the earliest west of the Mississippi. When you mentioned that I was thinking of random graves in remote cemetaries, which probably exist. . Amongst the other early ones, Hills of Eternity in CA where Wyatt Earp is buried. And a strange one to me, first old Jewish Cemetary I’d seen in the west, down a trail from the Boothill graveyard in Tombstone. Now restored. Thanks.
I know there are older ones in the mountains. I have talked to locals who were discovering there roots, but I can’t remember where he said they were.
Thus far no insistence to remove references to the Confederacy or flags, but I'm sure it's coming.
Back to New Mexico. I bet if you knock around Los Alamos or the Enchanted Circle area you could find interesting artifacts. There is a large Jewish Heritage center in Albuquerque, http://www.nmjewishhistory.org/ I bet if you contact them you could find out all kinds of information. I didn't drill down into the web site but lots of info here.
OK - since I am the person who first brought this article to our attention, I would like to add a few more thoughts.
The article explicitly states that the Zimmerman family is not Jewish. So, why are some Freepers still harking back to some sort of Jewish connection? It baffles me.
Another person mentioned that he never knew anyone named Zimmerman who was not Jewish. Huh??? I live in the Midwest where there are lots of people of German descent. I certainly know personally people with the name Zimmerman who are not Jewish, and never have been Jewish. Zimmerman is a very common German surname, and it will be found all over the German speaking world.
By-the-way, I personally have the surname MARX in my family tree; twice in my maternal line and once in my paternal line. That does not make me Jewish - as all of these lines were Catholic Rheinlanders.
Many Jews have Germanic surnames, It is a fact. Names such as Friedmann, Klein, Marx, Zimmermann, Hoffmann, etc are very common all over Germany, Austria, etc. Most of them are Christians, not Jews.
