In 1994, the United States was home to about 200 million privately owned guns. Today, that number has ballooned to between 270 million and 300 million. That's almost half of all privately owned guns worldwide, according to a new essay from the Brookings Institution.
The essay, titled The Promise by Matt Bennett, looks back at the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings and the way ahead for gun control. The piece breaks down some other big numbers surrounding the battle for more gun regulation: More than 10 firearm deaths per 100,000 Americans every year; 600 annual accidental shootings; 11,400 murders; about 31,000 total gun deaths. The most common age of people who commit gun crimes is 19, then 20, then 18. That's despite regulations that bar licensed dealers from selling handguns to anyone under the age of 21. Almost 100 million adults live in a home with a gun.
Bennett ties these numbers back to last year's tragedy in Newtown, Conn.:
Still in the arena as well are the families of Sandy Hook. Despite the glare of a spotlight that has forced them to repeatedly relive their darkest hour and subjected them to a stunning level of personal vitriol, they continue to come to Washington, meet with senators and talk to the press. They accepted early on that this was a long roadthat a 20-year gridlock on gun policy was not likely to change in an instant.
The motto of Sandy Hook Promise is: "Our hearts our broken; Our spirit is not." And the extraordinary generosity of spirit that these brave people bring to this nasty, brutish political debate could, in the end, make all the difference.

That’s only because private gun ownership is illegal in many countries.
Still, we need more guns. Too many people don’t have one.
I’m more interested in comparing how private citizens are armed compared to the DHS. I fear that’s the stat that will matter someday.
We owe a lot to Obama, the all time number one gun salesman.
That means Obama, Holder, ATF, DHS and FBI had better think twice.
We owe a lot to Obama, the all time number one gun salesman....
Don’t forget our all time runner up Bill Clinton.
I think we have much more than just half of the privately owned guns.
Where is the other half?
No wonder the globalists are so desperate to disarm Americans.
I find it hard to believe that there no homicides in Pakistan.
And if we had more sense without the a$$ hat liberals, we would own the other half.
That’s it? Disappointing.
More proof that America is the best country on Earth. Let’s keep up the good work. Buy a gun!
and yet we’re all not all out of control shooting anything that moves, like the left always screamed would happen. criminals will always be criminals, those numbers will always be present so long as we don’t jail and execute and re-release murderers back into society.
Thank You Lord!!!
It would be a much better world if we owned all of them.
TIME FOR A NEW WAVE OF GUN ACQUISITIONS.
>> Americans Own Nearly Half of the Privately Owned Guns on Earth

> It would be a much better world if we owned all of them.
I don’t believe that... it would mean that the NWO had prohibited private gun ownership everywhere but here.
Great! I knew I would have a good reason to buy another fire arm! I will do my part to increase this statistic so our crime/homicide rate continues to drop and private gun ownership continues on the increase.
I have seen working firearms in very capable condition dating back to the Spanish-American War.
Since there is no gun registration effectively , all of the stuff brought home from wars, passed down from parents etc.etc., I am sure that the true number is close to double that which is stated in the article.
