New York Giants star receiver Victor Cruz tweeted an ominous prediction for George Zimmerman shortly after Zimmerman was acquitted of murder, and then quickly deleted the tweet. And later apologized for it.
The NFL star tweeted to his more than 334,000 follwers, Zimmerman doesnt last a year til the hood catches up to him. The tweet has since been deleted.
In a series of follow up tweets, the Giant said that his angry tweet was my initial interpretation of the reaction I was reading on twitter.I immediately realized my tweet was a mistake and I apologize.
Cruz was not the only football player to spark protest with a tweet about the Zimmerman trial verdict. Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White was also barraged after this tweet: All them jurors should go home tonight and kill themselves for letting a grown man get away with killing a kid
Rather than deleting the tweet after a round of protests from the twittersphere, White defended his words in another tweet an hour later:
It's crazy how people on twitter want me to get in trouble for a tweet that they are retweeting because they want something to happen thanks
This morning, though, White tweeted an apology: I understand my tweet last nite was extreme. I never meant for the people to do that. I was shocked and upset about the verdict. I am sorry.
Twitter saw a flood of passionate comments about the verdict. In the minutes following the announcement, tweets about the case shot to more than 47,800 TPM (tweets per minute) according to the ABC News Social Desk.
The total number of tweets about the verdict more than 4.5 million has surpassed the number of tweets about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December

They should be banned from the NFL so they can make their living as the garden variety thugs they really are.
In the middle of te 67 riot in Detroit, Willie Horton left the ball bark and stood on the roof of his car in his Tiger uniform. He didn’t yell “Kill whitey” he begged the people to stop destroying their city and go home.
Suspend both these thug idiots, Goddell. You are pissing off your paying customers. The ones that actually pay for tickets, Sunday Ticket and big things from your sponsors. Enoughs enough.
“I am sorry.”
A.k.a I don’t want to lose money. I need it for my mansion, 12 cars, 7 child support checks(all different baby-mamas), and my 20 pit bulls.
What companies have Cruz as a paid sponsor. I recall Campbells, but there are two or three others.
Living in the Atlanta area, I fired off a letter to the Falcons(for all it’s worth) stating I would never attend a Falcons game again as long as Roddy was a playa. I would also be busy persuading the rest of my family and friends to do the same.
Future anthropologists will identify “Tweets” as a marker of the demise of Western Civilization.
He only apologized after realizing that his little tweet went over like a fart in church.
As I said on another thread about Cruz, the wording sounded more like a comment than a threat. On a thread regarding thuggish misbehavior by law enforcement I said that if the behavior continued some LEOs may not come home from their shifts. Same deal, an observation, not a threat.
Suspend these POS’s Goddell
Translation: "My "Creepy Ass Cracker" agent called to tell me that I just endangered that fat Contract he negotiated and I needed to do some serious CYAs and Mea Culpas or the money train was gonna get derailed and I be out of a job."
The NFL should slap them with big fines. Then people should boycott the thug league.
” Willie Horton ?”
That gave me pause1 Had to check. I guess there are/were more than one Willie Horton.
My how times have changed. Now they would participate in the riots.
Their agents probably contacted them the minute they became aware of their idiotic responses on social media.
Pro football is nothing but a gang of steer thugs. It’s time to stop watching. Not that I watch—but why support this America-bashing sport?
Many whites have been fired for far less agregious comments, ie. Jimmy the Greek.
To many ugly personalities in professional sports these days. Organizations should clean up their act, but it isn’t until a player is lead away in cuffs that any action is taken. Too bad, but I know they won’t miss my money.
New NFL, AFL, and ABL mottos: “Our felons are meaner than your felons.”
I’m glad I don’t buy what these thugs are selling anymore.
