Dem senator (Klobuchar): Federal charges for Zimmerman a 'tough' call for DOJ
The Hill ^ | July 14 2013 | Bernie Becker

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said Sunday that the Justice Department had a tough choice in deciding whether to bring federal civil rights charges against George Zimmerman.

A former prosecutor, Klobuchar said that the department would need to wait until their investigation collected all the evidence they could.

“I know that investigation’s going on. As a former prosecutor, I know you wait until you see all the evidence,” Klobuchar said on ABC’s “This Week.”

“They’re going to have to make that decision. It’ll be a tough one.”

(snip)

On “This Week,” Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) called the verdict “devastating.”

“I just am very concerned about what message this sends to the community,” Bass added.

Appearing with the two Democrats, Sen. Orrin Hatch (Utah), a former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he thought the verdict was “accurate.”

“There were plenty of reasonable doubts there,” Hatch said.

Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), meanwhile, said it was clear that Zimmerman should have deferred more to police, and that the fallout from the criminal case would be felt for some time.

“There are moral dimensions beyond the case that obviously we have to come to grips with,” Cole said.

The decision whether to prosecute will be based solely on politics, not the law. The left has successfully bent the law to mean whatever it wants, finding gay rights and abortion in the Constitution, but no right to free speech or to keep and bear arms. The rule of law has been replaced with the Orwellian concept of Doublethink. Don’t believe what your brain or your eyes tell you-it’s all about feelings.

Tom Cole is a totally reliable GOPe vote. He’s weak. Sure. Zimmerman should have deferred more to the police. That’s a real easy thing to say, Representative Cole, when you’re not the one being attacked. I guess you think Zimmerman should have headed back to his truck when the 911 operator told him to. Oh. Wait. He DID do that according to the call.

Klobuchar, I have some news for you this was WITHHOLDER and THE FOREIGNERS federal case. It would never have been pushed if not for these two RACE HATERS. Despite what the LEFTIST FRAUDS living in the I AM A VICTIM HOTEL say, this case came out exactly as the evidence suggested it should have. NOT GUILTY. Zimmerman should now pursue legal action against those that falsely accused him. NBC, THE FOREIGNER, SHARPTON, JACKSON, and so on down the line.

Don’t sucker punch a man in a state that has a “right to carry law”.

Trayvon could have sucker-punched Zimmerman without much risk if he'd run away immediately afterward, since self-defense statutes would not allow someone in that situation to shoot the fleeing assailant (a defendant might argue that the impact to his brain caused a momentary loss of judgment similar to that of a "crime of passion"; I think the statutes are grossly defective in not allowing a jury a clear spectrum of culpability they could assign, ranging from slight culpability (the defendant should have used better judgment even in those circumstances, but does not pose a threat to the community) and a 20-year prison term (the defendant had no evil state of mind, but had no particular justification for shooting the decedent).

Personally, I think the world would be a better place if people who sucker punched other people had a slight but significant chance of getting shot. Some otherwise good people who get particularly agitated may sucker punch someone unjustifiably, and it's probably best if most such people don't get shot as a consequence, but sucker-punching should be risky enough as to discourage rational people from doing so.

I was just trying to cherry pick what I could regarding civil rights charges. Not even sure if that’s correct! I knew the guy was off base on the case itself.

It is so easy and blissful to be a Leftist: If you have no conscience. And if you do not care about going to hell.

"Nope..they have to placate the Black Caucus..but you can bet that the decision to proceed will be announced AFTER the 2014 election.."

I'm guessing Maxine Waters will find fault with "Not Guilty verdict.

Oh, yes, she has cache with the press to opine with the masses any time she wants.

With the media at her disposal she will opine and it will be RACIST.

"Not sure I agree, the Feds are vindictive $#!@!, especially now that they gets a free pass for all their misgivings."

This trial took the scrutiny off of "IRS" and other executive scandals.

If they can, the feds and the czars will milk this cow for all its worth - no wonder civil suits are in the hopper.

Anything they (feds/czars) do and say will be to take press off of executive misdeeds and hammer GZ down.

And, don't even mention Jackson/Sharpton and they're ilk. ($$$$/"front page" visibility).

“I just am very concerned about what message this sends to the community,” Bass added.

I, for one, am sick and tired of "the community."

There should be a law outlawing "sucker punches".

Oh, wait, I know...isn't a "sucker punch" assault or something like that? There ARE laws against "sucker punches"./sarc

Good post, supercat!
