Fugitive former U.S. spy contractor Edward Snowden controls dangerous information that could become the United States' "worst nightmare" if revealed, a journalist familiar with the data said in a newspaper interview.
Glenn Greenwald, the Guardian journalist who first published the documents Snowden leaked, said in a newspaper interview published on Saturday that the U.S. government should be careful in its pursuit of the former computer analyst.
"Snowden has enough information to cause harm to the U.S. government in a single minute than any other person has ever had," Greenwald said in an interview in Rio de Janeiro with the Argentinian daily La Nacion.
"The U.S. government should be on its knees every day begging that nothing happen to Snowden, because if something does happen to him, all the information will be revealed and it could be its worst nightmare."

He likely has a means by which "Pandora's box", as you called it, will be opened if anything happens to him. That is what Greenwold is warning the US about.

you know, I thought that same thing. however, what I don’t understand is, for example, if Romney knew it wasn’t a real election, you mean he was acting all that time? why would a guy worth hundreds of millions put in that kind of effort?

wait a minute, it just entered my thick skull. a couple of weeks after snowden enters Russia, the Russians decide to go back to typewriters. holy crap.
Satan is real, and people get corrupted in many ways. Human choices can often seem mysterious, but if you factor in the influence of Satan, you begin to see why people might behave in some unexpected ways.
Note it mentions harm to the US Govt, not the US itself. Not sure if I trust any of the actors in this drama, though - Govt or Snowden or Greenwald.

Now consider the fact that Snowden has much more information to release,
and has strategicly duplicated his information "in case something may happen to him ".
It is in the U.S. government's best interest to keep him health now .. go figure !

The truth has been available for decades to anyone with the capability to read. Most Americans choose to still consider it all nutcase conspiratorial nonsense because it goes against what they were taught in public schools and colleges.

Hear ya. ALL smoke and mirrors from these two and the collaborative .guv in general. Issa had more than enough evidence to jettison Erik The H to Sing-Sing. And didn't.

Snowden’s dead man’s switch is likely why Russia, aka U.S. intelligence, is now entertaining asylum for him. The longer Snowden can be induced to keep the key inactive, the less damaging the information becomes. For example, give him a dacha and the run of a brothel for the rest of his life versus death if he discloses anything. Lofty principles may melt away.
Although, the data that Snowden must enter to extend the suspension of the decryption key could be detected by monitoring his keystrokes.
