If I recall correctly, Obama tried to get her to become ambassador to the Holy See (Vatican) Her pro abortion stand kind of nixed that one.
The Vatican has more than once refused to accept the credentials of people selected by both Clinton, and Obama.

I will give Jackie Kennedy credit. She knew she had to get her children away for the rest of the Kennedy clan.

From April 2009.
Vatican blocks Caroline Kennedy appointment as US ambassador
The Vatican has blocked the appointment of Caroline Kennedy as US ambassador, according to reports.
Vatican sources told Il Giornale that their support for abortion disqualified Ms Kennedy and other Roman Catholics President Barack Obama had been seeking to appoint.
Mr Obama was reportedly seeking to reward John F Kennedy's daughter, who publicly gave her support to his election bid. She had been poised to replace Hillary Clinton as New York senator, but dropped out amid criticism that she lacked enough experience for the job.
The Italian paper said that the Vatican strongly disapproved of Mr Obama's support for abortion and stem cell research. The impasse over the ambassadorial appointment threatens to cloud his meeting with the Pope during a G8 summit in Itay in July.

Well, one thing in her favor...she's the reason we have "Sweet Caroline.."
BTW..there was an article the other day ( I think Politico?) that career FS types are getting really upset at Obama's "selling" ambassadorships to his biggest donors..for career types...an ambassador is what they all strive for..on ther merits, and it seems that most of the good ones have become political plums..State is a very incestuous place..many may not like having "Upper Volta" as the high point of their career path..so you might start to see some interesting "leaks"

At least the four mentioned Ambassadors where experienced political entities that had some modicum of peer support.
CK is not smart, not well respected nor is she broadly supported by her peers; might I add also, dramatically un-accomplished for one with such a privileged background.
Oh that’s right she’s a KENNEDY!
never mind . . .

She may not be gay but she sure is stupid. During her brief fifteen minutes of fame a couple years ago she revealed an inability to form coherent sentences. This is a slap in the face to the Japanese who will recognize an obtuse incompetent boob when they encounter one.

Mike Mansfield was an authentic expert on Asian affairs, Mondale and Foley of course were mere hacks.

Ambassadorships have traditionally been political payoffs. The role of ambassador originally was as a mouthpiece for the sovereign back home, he didn't have to know much, just say what his boss told him to say.
