Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz says the prosecutors in the George Zimmerman murder trial should be charged with "prosecutorial misconduct" for suggesting the defendant planned the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin.
"That is something no prosecutor should be allowed to get away with to make up a story from whole cloth," Dershowitz told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"These prosecutors should be disbarred. They have acted absolutely irresponsibly in an utterly un-American fashion."
Zimmerman, a 29-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer, is charged with gunning down Martin, 17, as the two fought following a confrontation in the gated Sanford, Fla., community where Zimmerman lives an act the defendant said was in self-defense.
In the prosecution's final argument on Friday, lawyer John Guy said Zimmerman deliberately followed Martin and "shot him because he wanted to."
Dershowitz called Guy's statement "such speculation. How does he get into the mind of Zimmerman? He hasn't cross-examined him, he hasn't met him.
"To ask the jury to believe that is to ask the jury to convict based on complete and utter speculation and that's not the way the law operates."

Well if GZ is convicted, we know who will be writing the appeal.
Yep.
GZ will not be convicted.
FGS, a police chief was fired because he DID his job! Everybody knows this whole trial is so wrong, yet NO ONE is going to do a F'n thing about it!
When you cease being a free people, the little trappings of civilized society, like equality under the law, fade away.
Big Brother has an agenda and Zimmerman must be sacrificed.
Lets hope that jurors don’t feel intimidated.
No reason society can't make the law operate that way. There is plenty of precedent for it. The main thing going on is transformation here... from a society where law does not operate this way, to one where it does. There is a transition point where plenty of folks recognize it should not be this way, to one where they become more of a minority, to one where they become almost-invisible lone islands of sanity.
Seems there are more than one reason why GZ will have grounds for appeal. This judge has let this Prosecution Team make a mockery of our judicial system. Not to mention her own efforts.
While I disagree politically with much of what Alan Dershowitz says, I have to admit that for some legal matters I have seen a lot of integrity in him over the years. You have to give him some props for that.
Team Trayvesty are an insult to Justice and the Law...
Not even of manslaughter?
I’ve seen Alan Dershowitz make enough comments in defense of ‘bad people’ that I can’t take his comments that I agree with seriously.
He’s an incessant defender. He just does it by automation.
Here I happen to agree with his comments. It’s just that it’s so seldom that I do, that it’s almost an automatic slap in the face to Zimmerman to have him support his cause.
Alan, give Zimmerman a break will ya. Shut! Up!
Not in this case...he has a history with Corey
Perhaps so. Look, if you’ve seen a guy defend the defenseless for decades, what’s your take going to be when he defends someone on sound grounds?
You are inclined to think you might have been wrong if the Dersh agrees with you.
What would your take be if Obama were to suddenly back Christians on some issue? Wouldn’t you wonder how this was going to wind up screwing Christians in the end?
Same here...
A trial that should never have taken place.
Trayvon Martin had a perfectly good opportunity to have just gone on back to the unit that was SUPPOSED to have been his destination, and he decided instead to pursue a little game of “cat and mouse”, somehow believing himself to be the cat. Pouncing on the “mouse”, and playing around with it a little, only to discover the “mouse” was armed, the game got a whole lot more deadly in an instant.
There is no demonstrable indication that Zimmerman had even attempted to draw his gun, until Martin evidently felt the presence of the holster, and laid off his pummeling of Zimmerman long enough to make a grab for the gun. So for some few seconds, it was not Zimmerman’s gun, or Martin’s gun, but THE gun. It was a matter of sheer happenstance that Zimmerman got the firmest grasp, and managed to fire it at close range up through Martin’s chest.
There had to be an “Aw, SH*T!” moment maybe for both participants.
He’s absolutely right . .along with the judge and Angela Corey The misconduct is enormous and entirely based on the politics of cowardice
What I find surprising is that this headline hasn't generated a stream of calls from FReepers for Dershowitz in 2016
You are absolutely right. He upholds the rule of law, regardless of politics. Kudos to him.
Doucheyerwits is on the case by accident. When this initially happened, word spread like wildfire that Zimmerman was Jewish, thus AD was called on to investigate the anti-Semitic angle. Once in, he was a talking head to go to even after there was no Jewish angle except mistaken assumptions about a surname.
