Gun violence in Chicago is costing the troubled city a staggering $2.5billion a year according to research by financial group Bloomberg.
The Windy City is in the grip of a crime epidemic having experienced over 50 homicides and 170 shootings already this year and 506 murders in 2012.

The best year recorded for Chicago homicides is about 950 to 970 circa 1971.
Chicago has made some “progress”.
