Johnny Depp Wants To Buy The Site of Wounded Knee Massacre & Give It Back to Native Americans

Johnny Depp has announced that he wants to buy Wounded Knee, a national historic landmark, and give it back to the Indian people. In an interview with the Mail On Sunday, the actor revealed that he is ready to spend millions in order to give the Native American people control of the land that was the site of a brutal 1890 massacre. ‘It’s very sacred ground and many atrocities were committed against the Sioux there,' he said in the interview.

'And in the 1970s there was a stand-off between the Feds (Federal government) and the people who should own that land. This historical land is so important to the Sioux culture and all I want to do is buy it and give it back. Why doesn’t the government do that?’

The area near Wounded Knee Creek on the Lakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota is the site where the last major battle of the American Indian Wars took place.

The fight began when the American troops tried to disarm the Lakota Indians, and when one elderly tribesman refused to hand over his weapon the troops began to attack. The exact number of casualties differs in various reports, but there were thought to be at least 150 members of the Lakota tribe- including men, women and children- who were killed.

The massacre has caused outrage from historians as at least 20 American soldiers were awarded the Medal of Honor for their role in the bloodshed.

Well, that is one way to respond when you get corrected for thinking that they were American citizens and confusing the U.S.Army in war, with law enforcement in a still unexplained operation in a Texas city during the recent Clinton administration.

You can criticize the 1800s Indian fighting Army without making so many mistakes.

Nowipee tribesman in hand-to-hand combat, due to their overpowering odor.

LOL. Had to look twice to get it.

I think he just wants to put on his Tonto costume and run around in the tall grass. Sorta get in touch with his inner wounded knees.

Ansel, was or was not the U.S. Army present and cooperating at Mt. Carmel? Whose tanks were those, anyway? I'll grant it was an ATF show, but what was the 1st Cav doing there?

And, yes, I saw the note you copied from Wikipedia -- wherein Wounded Knee was described as "the last battle of the American Indian Wars".

But those wars were over! These were reservation Indians. Wounded Knee wasn't a war-time skirmish. It was a peace-time massacre. Just like Mount Carmel.

And, in both cases, the massacres were directed by the federal government against innocent men, women and children -- be they Lakota Sioux or Branch Davidians.

If you've an objection to the comparison, so be it.

Just googled it. Sacheen Littlefeather is actually of native-American ancestry.

Gosh, what’s festering inside you? For your information it’s been all over the place, in the news, on DVD, in print media and so forth.

Look buster, get off my back. As for anyone else enjoying the Black Hills I’m sure they do. All I said was that getting the Black Hills back seemed to be the better of the two “Moral Things” Johnny Depp could do if he were of a mind.

You need to take a pill....

Buy it, and put Elizabeth Warren in charge. Get her out of the senate.

One more thing, I don’t care where you live or how you make your living. It means nothing to me. What I do care about is history. Read it. Native Americans first fought and pushed out other Native Americans for the land for survival and religious reasons. Then the Europeans did the same thing. All I was pointing out through historical fact is that some tribes believe that the Black Hills are sacred and if Depp truly wishes to make his contribution this was the fight he should have taken. And guess what, I’m allowed that opinion. And if that makes me a lib in your eyes well color me RED!

You know what, it’s impossible to carry on intelligent conversations or even have polite disagreements with people like you who fly off the handle and enjoy it. So please, go away and leave me alone and take those chips on your shoulder with you!

It sounds like you just enjoy your feelings on the matter, and need to use the language and false information to jazz it up more for the rush.

He needs to buy the Cayman Islands and give them back to the pirates too.

I don’t know what he should buy for playing Scissorhands. Maybe shredded wheat company?

True story:

Three gals were standing in the lobby of a hotel at an Native American Convention in the Inner Harbor some years ago, and as often happens they struck up a conversation to pass the time. Said one, introducing herself, "I am Tawny Feather, an Arapaho." Said a second one: "I am Running Water, a Navajo." They looked at the third girl, whom they noticed was quite a bit darker and asked, where are you from?"

"Oh, I'm a Baltimo' ho." She replied.

Liberals have never understood: To the victor go the spoils.

There probably isn’t a country on earth, going back far enough, where earlier inhabitants have not been vanquished. But it’s a cottage industry with Liberals.
